Difficulty: Easy
The fledgling Choson empire under War Lord Soong is caught between two powerful expanding nations. To the west, the Chinese Shang under the Liu Dynasty. To the east, the Imperial Yokoto Dynasty of Japan. Choson must fish the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan to survive. However the Shang consider the Yellow Sea their territorial waters and attack Choson fishing fleets, a state of war exists between Choson and the Shang. The Yokoto of Japan are neutral, yet their fleets are depleting the fisheries of the Sea of Japan, and land poor, they covet the Choson peninsula. A story of expansion, economics, war, and survival. Playability: 3.2
A decently fun and enjoyable little scenario. You're pitched as Korea between two nations, China and Japan, each steadily fishing out your seas. You are forced to take action obviously, leading to the objective of defeating both Japan and China. Doing so is quite enjoyable, although your adversaries aren't too difficult this would certainly be a great scneario for a beginner. Taking advantage of your civ bonuses and terrain are key here. Both China and Japan attack you very steadily and provide reasonable resistance. Overall, a slight cut above average and fun to play most of the time.

Balance: 3
With Japan stuck in the tool age for most of the game, China is obviously your major adversary here. Once they find you, the will attack you steadily from bronze with cavalry and stone throwers. It's unlikely that you'll lose however, if you take any initiative to head for them first. You overpower them resource wise. If you keep at it, you should beat China eventually. Interestingly, Japan showed some decent resistance towards the end of my game, as Yamato warships in large numbers are very hard to take out. For the most part though, Japan does not have a lot of building space and is taken out in a few raids.

Creativity: 3.4
The story and map are very creative, depicting a real world location along with a believable and fairly extensive backstory. The gameplay and objectives are all too typical, and would have been interesting to see a bit more variety. Overall though, this does seperate itself from the rest with a great story and map.

Map Design: 3.4
This mostly earns points for depicting the location so well. The surrounding countryside is fairly random mappish, but does have it's own unique look to it, with lots of hills and 'ditches'. A cut above average for the maps made back in this day.

Story/Instructions: 4.2
Excellent. Story has just enough and is very believable---no grammar errors and gives you a great first impression. The bitmap is even better and outdoes some of the ES campaign maps. Both aftermaths are well done as well. A sheer lack of quantity and only one hint set this back a bit, but this is great overall.
