Playability: 3
Defend Gibraltar is a heavily altered Islands map---and plays much like one. Your goal is to beat the Germans off their island and keep them off yours. There are two other civs on the map, Italians and Spanish, but they are allied to all and only exist for the purpose of trading. They are a nice touch though. You start in the Iron age with a fairly developed base, on par with the Germans. From there it's a mild struggle to stop German triemes from blowing down your port, but most players should get to it eventually. Overall a fairly bland experience touched up by some interesting dings. It's fun to play once.
Balance: 3
The Germans put up some very stiff resistance navy-wise throughout the game. You're going to have to boom wood and upgrade your ships at the start of the game. As long as you keep pumping triemes, you should be able to hold off the German triemes. Once you get control of the sea, taking the battle to them ends the scenario in a few raids. Overall, mildly difficult and a decently balanced game. This would be a great challenge for beginners.
Creativity: 2.7
An AoE scenario based upon a WWII event is a creative setting, and the Spanish & Italian trading ports are a nice touch too. The very typical map and weak story hunker this down however, and this really cannot be seen as a true standout from any of the other endless "modified RMs" found in the granary.
Map Design: 2.5
A random islands one, moidified, has some details put into it. +.5 for age. Fairly typical of the era.
Story/Instructions: 2
Gives everything it needs to give on the lowest level. While the author does this clearly, 3 sentences don't really constitute for a full storyline and instructions.
Additional Comments: Not bad... If you're new to AoE I'd reccomend it.
