This was an OK campaign, but to tell you the truth, it was not what I had expected. It was well executed, and it got the point across, but it lacked the lace lining that really makes a campaign stand out. One of the main things that could have been fixed in this campaign was the playability. Basically, it was just too hard in some places, and tedious in others. You know what I mean -- you play one scenario for an hour, don't really see anything interesting, get bored, and give up. If a scenario is going to take this kinda time to complete, it should have more things that grab your attention, and make it nicer to look at... like the "Tai Gun" campaigns, by Ingo Van Thiel. Indeed, you could tell that the author had played the "Tai Gun" campaigns, as he borrowed some of the design tricks, such as the burning at the stake. The victory conditions were well done, and were quite varied. I liked the idea of sacraficing a villager, but having it only work when he was at a specific location, which was hard to survive long enough to get to... Also, the last plot twist was unsuspected, and perhaps set us up for a sequel -- which I will play, and am looking forward to. The map design was also OK, although it was not great. In some places, it was fairly obvious that a random map had been used, although, in the first level especially, the maps were quite well done. The story and instructions were about middle of the pack, with some fairly well done bitmaps, as well as some fairly bad ones. But, at least they were there, and I have a soft spot for maps. The story was not great, but it told you all that you needed to know, provided you with good tips, and gave you a bit of a background story. All together, it is a good effort from a first time submitter. Try it; it is worth the download. |
