The Tai Gun II

Author File Description
Ingo van Thiel
File Details
Number of Scenarios: 6
Difficulty: Hard
The Tai Gun made their peace with the Shang many years ago. The former enemies have turned into friends, and the Tai Gun have become the Shang Emperor's most loyal followers. Life is no easier though. The Tai Gun belong the last supporters of a crumbling empire. Barbarians are causing havoc at the border, and the Chou are becoming a serious threat to the Shang dynasty. But the greatest danger comes from within. The Shang are being torn apart by murderous intrigues, power-hungry noblemen and treacherous counselors. You will never know who to trust...

Tai Gun II is different from the original Tai Gun. The challenges and riddles are harder, and the story is a bit darker. However, there are also some nice surprises in store for you. I had a lot of fun designing this campaign, and I hope you'll enjoy playing it, too!

Update 2008: The campaign can now be played on all difficulty levels. Some special effects such as burning buildings did not work on "Easiest" and "Easy", this has been fixed. Moderate or harder are still recommended for best experience.

WHOOPEEE!! This one starts with a whitewater raft ride, and gets even better as it goes along. Ingo has done it again. Innovative, perfectly-functioning victory conditions. Beautiful and challenging terrain maps. Highly engaging story, albeit a bit on the dark side, as the Tai Gun, now allied with their erstwhile tormentors the Shang, try to overcome new, well-balanced threats from treason and other forms of evil-doing. In the first scenario, you can't win unless a particular hero kills the three enemy Priests - how'd he do that? The lovely river dell in the second scenario is a great place to rest and refit before you decide which of two identical-looking enemy leaders to zap - choose wrong and you lose. In the 3rd scenario, your lone warrior has to vanquish, mano-a-mano, an enemy hero who has more attack points, more hit points and more armor than you -- after you whip his 20 guards and eliminate his reconnaissance advantage. In the 4th, you have to beat back a very strong early attack on your base, then find a tomb - in the darkness of which lurk both terrible danger and great opportunity (you won't get this one right the first time 8~) ). In Scenario 5, you must help your ally's leader escape his burning palace before it collapses and crushes him. Then you must fight your way to and capture the well-fortified city where he is held prisoner. The final scenario is both the hardest and the best of all of Ingo's scenarios, in all three of his classic campaigns, IMHO. Witness horrible atrocities by a tyrant, make a very difficult escape, build up a little in your ally's secret base, then overcome a couple of major ambushes so you can unify your split forces. After this, make your way to another stoutly-defended and gorgeous city which you must reduce to capture the enemy leader, whom you must offer as a sacrifice to your ally. Design gimmicks galore - burning palaces which influence gameplay, invisible barriers (not what you think ;~) ) on clear-looking roads, a real-looking destroyed bridge which has strategic value, the neatest Blind Lame Priest-only start ever -- and much, much more. A GREAT ONE!! PLAY IT!!
MrCheeze You forgot to mention anywhere that this campaign requires at least Medium difficulty.

Thanks for the heads up, MrCheeze. I just submitted an update that should work on all difficulty levels.
