Avalone...Ile of the Pacific is characterized by the fact that it possesses two well distinct climates, a desert to the south and the green other to the north. Multiplayer also : No
Game was playable but there was almost no point in playing it. Enemy offered no resistance and it was a matter of taking my TC and my villies and slowly building up and destroying.
Balance: 1
The enemy never built any offensive units and never attacked me overtly. He had towers already built into the map but I soon dispatched them at leisure with my vast armada of galleys built with wood from my vast forests. At one point I set my lumberjacks to chopping wood and went to bed. 8 hours later I got up and checked on them. I had 20,000 wood even though I was living in the South Side, the poor part of town. In that same 8 hours the enemy had not built a single new unit, a single new building, or a single new tech. (This I discovered on the second play-through on Reveal Map to see what went wrong. I always play through the first time with no cheats to get the proper effect the designer intended)
Creativity: 1.5
The designer has modified the available techs to create a Bronze Age straight up battle with no priests or wonders, and he has modified the map to set up the situation he wants.
Map Design: 1.5
The map was obviously created from scratch, being perfectly rectangular. Shallow water abutting shores, and contiguous cliff lines with no breaks were all composed well. The squared off boundaries of most areas give the feeling of an early Nintendo game map.
Story/Instructions: 1.5
I rather liked the story and I could feel some sympathy (at first) for the poor tribe living in the harsh conditions down South. However, after a few hours of chopping , mining and fishing, I had plenty of resources for my tribe and I didn’t even need to invade up North unless I did it out of sheer spite.
Additional Comments:
To the Player: I’m afraid I can’t recommend this for a download.
To the Designer: Thanks for the scenario. It was entertaining and surprising when I ran into an elephant that turned out to be a King Elephant. Please do not use “Aléatoire” (random) for P2’s Strategy and Personality, it makes the enemy sit there and not build anything. Hope to see better scens in the future.
Notes: Mssr. Gratien has submitted quite a few scenarios here. In the interest of fairness I will not be reviewing any more of them because I think a designer should get reviews from several different people. I will check out his other scenarios and post a comment to let possible players or reviewers know if the scen is something they would like to handle.

Later... since I do not see anyone else reviewing Mssr Gratien's scens, maybe I will review some more of them myself.
