The Martial Emperor

Author File Description
Rich Parker
File Details
Number of Scenarios: 5
Difficulty: Hard
The dynasties of China are legendary. Of all the emperors of dynastic China, perhaps the greatest was Emperor Wu-Ti, who expanded the borders and influence of the Western Han Dynasty to the greatest extents in Chinese history. Wu-Ti was called the Martial Emperor by historians, and it was a name he earned through many wars of conquest and the blood of his people. This campaign covers the reign of the Martial Emperor. In it, you will fight battles with Wu-Ti's enemies, both within and without the empire, you will explore unknown territories and expand the reach of Han China, and you will conquer new lands and use others to achieve your goals. A note about the instruction maps - they are not the usual type of map, but they can help you plan your strategy. Refer to them as you read the instructions and hints. This campaign began as a collaboration - the terrain map and gameplay of scenario 1 was created by the designer formerly known as imhotep, who has since retired - I take the blame for everything else. This is my last AoE campaign, although RoR or AoK may one day beckon. I hope you enjoy it.

TRULY EXCELLENT. A MASTERPIECE!! Rich Parker, one of the 4 or 5 finest designers, has done it again. This AoE campaign has just about everything. Fascinating true history of Wu-Ti, possibly China's greatest emperor. Varied victory conditions and scenario styles - combined with clever use of units and terrain - challenge your knowledge of AoE. Gorgeous and helpful bitmaps. Clear, useful, and yes - even educational - instructions and hints. Uncommonly good balance and playability. Explore ancient Asia, fighting the wilderness and diverse enemies, to open the legendary Silk Road, earn the right to admire what are clearly imperial cities, and expand your domain. You often have to fight on 2 or 3 fronts at once, sometimes in jungles {check out Annam (North Vietnam) in Scenario 4}, sometimes on the sea, sometimes in narrow mountain passes, sometimes in open desert. A true tour de force by an expert (who collaborated with another expert, imhotep, on one of the 5 scenarios). Rich's description of the game says this might be his last scenario or campaign. Join me in nagging him to make some more as great as this one. THIS, IMHO, IS ONE OF THE TOP TEN OF ALL TIME - PLAY IT!!
