Hi community,

We usually play RoR games with Random civilization and random large map.

And sometime we notice that the same map was played again, and strangely with the same civilization and the same starting position.

So I wonder if anyone know how civilization and starting position were assigned for random civilization/scenarios matchup?

Thanks in advance.

Well, that is interesting because it would seem to imply that the game uses the same random seed to initialize player civilisation as it uses for generating the maps.

Starting positions I believe are defined in the map generation script along with resource deposits and other features (you wouldn't want a player to start with a significant handicap lacking access to resources from their starting point).

Really all of this owns up to the fact that computers cannot handle truly random numbers, as Chab touched upon in your earlier thread.
