Thanks. Interesting video.

Awesome stuff as usual, nice to see someone came to look at this build. I wish I had the time to document all this but unfortunately I don't.
Btw it's nice to see your name in other forums like assemblergames too
You know, I'm just in love with the DoM prototype. It's so bare-bones but still clearly so very ambitious. It seems like it wanted to combine the classical RTS gameplay we know with the complexity of a City-builder. I mean just imagine if that thing got made, it'd have changed our whole concept of what a RTS game was supposed to be.
I know it's probably dumb, and there's most likely good reason things change during development, but whenever I look at early builds of games I get the feeling that the final product is somewhat inferior. Like, you get to see an idea of the full scope of what the developers had in mind, and then you compare it with the final product after practical limitations and time constraints are taken into account, and the earlier thing always seems more complex and more interesting.
I guess it's just way too easy to idealize the thing we never got.

One of the things I really like about DoM is the elevation-cliffs feature. Granted stuff is impossible to see if it's placed behind that but it looks so damn nice.
Also, nice to finally see the actual floppy disk. It is a holy grail - keep it secret, keep it safe!

It really reminds me of the original Zoo Tycoon game. But yeah in general the whole register of terrains and elevation features just seems so much more advanced. It's really surprising for a prototype made in '95.
