A game of epic proportions was released to the world exactly 20 years ago. It's name: Age of Empires. Created by the incredibly talented folks at Ensemble Studios, it would mark the beginning of the most fantastic real time strategy game series ever.
What better way to celebrate this day by going to a historical museum full of artifacts, artwork, and information about some of the ancient civilizations (Egyptians, Phoenicians, Etruscans and Romans, Greeks, Persians) that are in AoE and once ruled the world - this is exactly what I did, in style of course! Here are some moments from today:
A Greek vase, depicting a battle. I can't describe how beautifully detailed this looks.
This is a large Egyptian sarcophagus, with a look inside. Full of hieroglyphs, and amazing rich colors.
And lastly, a tomb raider from the future, dressed just like in the ancient times.
Age of Empires is what made me appreciate ancient history in the first place. It has been a wonderful 20 years. Well, the coming 20 years are looking bright - with a Definitive Edition coming for the whole series, as well as Age of Empires 4.
Cheers, and congrats!
