Hello. My name is Ahmad Akbaroglu.I come from the Turkish Republic of Gagauzia (Autonomous state in Moldova).
I rest in the Crimea ( Russian Federation) at the moment.
And I got the idea.
Why not replace the government center Shang on the real, what should it be?

The Government center Shang bronze age:

The Shang Dynasty :

Government center Shang iron age:

the architecture of the capital of the Shang dynasty:

Actually I think that the AoE-team concept of 'Shang' in game is closer to Ancient China as a whole than just specific of the Shang Dynasty.

Also the Shang dynasty didn't reach the Iron age, so by definition the architecture of the Shang in Iron age would need to be fictional.

I think that even if not historically accurate for the time period of AoE, the eastern Asian Building set is good enough for as it stands.

Still, thanks for sharing the information, Ahmad.

Speaking of the Chinese building set, who thinks the temple of heaven needs to be replaced with something that better fits the time scale of Age of Empires 1. Some of these are probably too large to be properly represented.

Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum is indeed massive. For centuries people thought it was a mountain.

So which of the 3 I have shown would work the best as the new Shang wonder

In my opinion the one that would fit better the chinese in the AoE timescale is Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum.

I would have to agree with that.

Although Salomon's temple was not Phoenician, I agree it could be a nice inspiration as the Phoenician culture must have influenced heavily the hebrews.

On the other hand, I think the Pharos (Lighthouse) in Alexandria was Ptolemaic, not Macedonian. However I can't think of a Macedonian wonder except maybe the Colossus of Rhodes (which I am not sure was Macedonian either) and would look like the current greek wonder.

Yeah I found several sources that say the temple in Jerusalem was build similar to the Phoenician temples and used Phoenician known-how and building materials.

The Macedonian wonder is indeed not the most ideal one but I think it still fits since it was build in a Hellenistic style.

The Ptolemaic Dynasty was founded by Ptolemy I Soter a Macedonian Greek who served as a General for Alexander the Great, so in my opinion it fits.

About Solomon's Temple, this is disputable.

Was builded in Jerusalem (Israel), but was builded by Phoenicians or at least with their help Hebrews builded it. Also cedar wood for this God's temple provided Phoenicians.

Bible is full of sources about it. Read it.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Hebrews 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

can you build gates because it is the most useful building that missing

I'm sure Jan could design a nice gate if he wanted to, but it would serve no purpose other than eye-candy - there is no functional gate system in AoE, nor will there ever be.

If someone build a code for moving parts i think it will be more usefull than a decoration. In the DE the trireme has moving oars if i remember correctly

could be possible to do, who knows.
I'm personally not interested at all in adding one of AOE2's worst things into AOE1, but maybe it's possible.

An idea would be to have a building with a "task swap group" id (just like villagers) : have 2 versions of the building, one being a normal building, the other one like farms (traversible).
The only customization to do would be a button to manually switch, and actually do the unit type switching. Which makes not that much to do, finally.

I'm not talking about automatic opening of the doors here !

And I don't know how pathfinding would behave there.

Well, if it doesn't have a collision box in the open state then pathfinding should probably be fine. That's actually pretty bright chab, I woudn't have expected gates to be doable without some serious modifications to the game engine. Still, I agree it would mostly be a superfluos addition to AoE 1.

I'm pretty sure that's how the gate functions in AoK. Just with the trigger to open if it's in a certain radius, which I can't see being done.

Maybe it's only a fool who'll perilously journey out to what might not be there. But if you want to solve problems, you don't just solve the ones that are there, you find more and make more and go after the impossible ones.

I wonder if there should be alternative wonders for Babylonians, and the Assyrians.
Despite several archelogical excavations of Babylon nobody has found any credible evidence of the giant gardens that were commonly attributed to being constructed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II. However there is a hypthosies that has some credible proof that the famous Hanging Gardens were infact located in the Assyrian city of Nineveh and they were built by King Sennacherib. So I think the Hanging Garaden Wonder should be given to the Assyrians while the Babylonians should get a new wonder with the most likely choice would be the Ishtar Gate. Reason why I choosen the Ishtar Gate is because the other logical choice the Etemenanki would have been too similar to the Ziggurat of Ur
