Some in-game screenshots, composite bowman with their range use hit and run but massed slingers can outflank them.

New graphics should not have selection masks, it crashes the game.

I got hyped by Jan dc's new buildings and wanted to try my hands at making aoe1 unit in blender.

Slinger upgrade seemed the best choice and here is the result so far with bronze and iron textures for shield/helm(it's a macedonian tall type):

What do you think about the outfit? The torso straps are similar to the short swordsman.

Someone who can make good unit graphics

On that note the torso straps don't fit in one way or another, maybe it's too big? Also, there doesn't seem to be that much of a change between iron and bronze age. I think that it is also too tall (but that may be because the ror slinger is small). Other than the things I mentioned there is nothing wrong with the graphic.

Thank you! Yeah you are not the first to find the straps weird i can try something more common as a tunic i guess. Since i think he shouldn't be too armored.

The model should have the same height as the old slinger but with the tall helm(i can put some player color there like other infantry have) and the shoulder pads lol it look taller.

Iron and bronze are just color variations for the same age unit(e.g. camels have iron armor but swordsman bronze/orange), not a third upgrade.

Very cool! Nice to finally see a new unit render. Some things: I am missing a bit of contrast when comparing it to the original slinger graphic. Also can you animate it? Good luck, this is promising stuff.

I changed a bit the lights to make his shoulders brighter. Also is the player colored vest good for the outfit?

I animated the model for a previous project of mine but it'd need some adjustments.

Way cool! Surely better than any 2-d graphic editing I could do.

I'm excited to see what else you make!

This is what I also feel other than that it looks great, player color vest is also a nice addition.

Contrast should have been improved in the second version?

Here are the walking cycle and upgrade icon:

The graphics are looking good toddler, (though I preferred it when the tunic was all blue.) Animated graphics are beyond me .

Notes:
- Do people have access to use your graphic in mods (if credited)
- It would be nice if (not trying to push or anything) you could add an attack, dying and decaying animation.

I think the contrast has improved, I also like the bronze cap and the shield, though the white shirt doesn't seem right, it no longer makes it look like an aoe1 graphic. Though it definitely makes it more identifiable.

Thank you for the feedback! All blue does look better, check my previous post again for the updated version.

Any thoughts on the walking animation itself?

@Sword of Aes

I'll release the unit after it's done and everyone will be free to use it.
I'll render the other animations after the design is final.

I have no problems with the walking animation, it looks natural, it looks aoe. The blue tunic is an improvement in my opinion, can't wait.

Wow, that looks great!

Ok i changed the tunic again and i kinda like this cut version more, but if you prefer the previous one i'll revert it, also made the unit icon(blue isn't the correct shade for player color yet):

Edit: Oh and the bullet bag is on the other side of the waist, compared to the old slinger, would that be an issue for anyone?

Well, this is incredible. I wonder though what is the actual kind of protection slingers used in say, the second punic war. Did they use any kind of armor? Thanks for sharing, todler.

And sonictimm, your Gandalf looks awesome although is too blue, maybe is Morinehtar or Rómestámo?

I guess they looked pretty much like the old slinger but now that i googled it i found these armored Assyrian ones:

Which is way cooler tbh since there are fewer asian units, but the bronze slinger looks good already. I can give him a beard though.

Idk if specific Assyrian style would fit. Other units seem more generic and if they're specific they're more Greek/Roman.
From what I know Balearic slingers were used often as mercenaries.

@Todler I preferred the graphic when the tunic was closer to the shoulders and the fact that the bag is on the otherside for the other slinger doesn't really matter. (Todler you should do the beard as a sample just to see how it would look and post it so everyone else can see.)

The unit with a beard doesn't look to bad (better than excepted). What does it look like as an icon in the same tunic (with & without the beard).

I think they're both equal, with and without the beard. When do you think you'll be able do an attack, dying & decaying animation?

The animations can be rendered in a short time, but to have anti-aliasing they are in png(it has alpha transperancy), so they need to be converted in photoshop to bmp and that takes longer.

It seems slp editor doesn't recognize the two darkest player colors of the aoe1 palette. Probably because slp editor was made for aoe 2 which has only 8 player colors instead of 10. Does anyone know a solution for this?
