Where did all these updates come from? A month after patch 8 came out we have been graced with another update for Age of Empires: Definitive Edition. Unlike any patches before, this patch makes small tweaks to the balance to level the playing field further between civilisations. It also includes minor improvements to AI, pathing and giving users more graphical options.

Also included was a teaser for what's to come with the next update, the communities most requested feature. Maybe they've been paying attention to our most recent poll? But the most important thing is, though a bit overdue, AoE: DE is finally getting the love it deserves and I can't wait for what updates to the game the future brings.

Chariot Archers no longer do bonus Damage vs Priests
Wasn't this a key part of the original AoE's balance? To prevent priest-spam?

And wasn't non-auto-attacking scouts part of the original design of the unit (supposed to be used for exploring and LOS rather than fighting)?

I think they must have felt that Priests are being underused and the changes they made were the best way to softly buffs Priests without changing any of its stats. I would believe that they would have had that bonus for balancing reasons originally but this was also by the same team that gave us 30% faster villager speeds for Assy and Yammy as well as Greek and Cho with no strong abilities to speak of (in RM). Persia even had no bronze age market upgrades and had a negative bonus towards farms originally. I think balancing has come along way from the zone days.

As to the Scout, that is what their original intention was, yes, but that limitation is what's really holding them back as a unit. At the moment and I think it was a much-needed change to push them into being playable. Being cheaper will also help them fill a hole in the tool age meta, which is a fast raiding unit that counters Slingers and am looking forward to how this affects expert games in the future.

One thing people seemed to overlook is this patch adds my number 1 requested feature - multiplayer scenario transfer yipee!

Pretty sure the most requested feature is ELO rating.

While I am very happy about updates, I don't understand while the team was quiet for so long before starting to work on updates again...this hurt the game population so badly...

Indeed the lack of communication or updates in the year following the release made it seem like the game was abandoned. Most likely the reasons are business related, other work has been piled up for them and apparently it took up time until now when somebody was given some time to come back to the old project.

It's a great surprise that we receive several updates in rapid succession now, and that they actually seem to have noticed what the players have been requesting. Let's hope that another of the community's main wishes are in the next update.

Their non-attack stance made them pretty much useless as a unit. It's near impossible to micromanage them to be effective and so their potential as a counter unit to slingers and bowmen was completely lost imo.

The thing is, a cavalry explorer available in Tool Age was never quite enough to warrant the investment of 100 food. By that point in the game players are already likely to have mapped out any natural resources. The AoE meta also rarely requires the type of map awareness that such a unit could provide.

Does this mean Yamato now have a 64 food auto attacking scout? That might actually be interesting for a rush strategy.

I would say that this gives reason to think that the new feature will be elo and possibly matchmaking.

Before this update, I saw more players Scout rushing with Persia over Yamato, especially if they found lots of hunt. Scouts have always existed as a potential rushing strategy before the patch. The problem was up until this point it was very situational and you needed to have everything line up correctly to pull it off effectively. It's just made it much easier so it'll be more frequent. Cavalry should be a very interesting unit late game now, with having been given additional pierce armour.

I think they may have just made Yamato unintentionally the strongest civ in the game even with the debuff because all their stable units have been buffed.

They have been busy over FE! Dang! I don't know the reasons behind this boost but we appreciate it a lot, even if some changes *reseeding farms* cough...are not nice in my eyes lol- Interesting changes, however I do feel that the chariot archers should have retained their attack bonus vs priests.

Who has time to mass priests against chariot archers?

Well as long as they retain their conversion resistance it's not like it makes a huge difference in the way the units interact. It just gives priests a slight boost to survivability.

I'm just happy that are still doing patches. I was starting to think it was totally abandoned. Path finding and AI were problems, but they are improving.
