Welcome to the AoEH Designers' Board, a thread aimed to gather the last active designers and keep them in contact. The Board shows in alphabetical order people who are currently working on AoE/RoR scenarios and campaigns. To join the Board simply post here and give some little details about your work, such as the game (AoE or RoR), the setting (Historical, Fiction or Fantasy) and the subject (what is your campaign about?). This is also a good place to ask help to other designers, seek for playtesters, post your screenshots, and unleash your design frustrations.

Updates on your progresses are optional, but highly welcome, so if you are working on a multi-level campaign you may post here as you finish a particular scenario, and your status will be updated. Once your game is published, it will be listed among the 'Released Projects'.

Yeah I sill have to put those in but like I said ages ago don't expect a masterpiece although want it to look reasonable.
BTW dose anyone have a scroll map for putting text I want to use it for my scenario map. Sorry if this confusing just tell me and I'll fix it.

I knew that my would be confusing. I hope this explains a bit.

Quoted from Frank Steidel's bitmap making article:

A simple and often times overlooked type of map is the "all text" bit map... The bit map I created for this represented a note. The bit map contained the writing from the note, which said, "We have managed to smuggle some of our men into the arena and when the time is right we will try to get you out alive".

Thank you, I read it, and well, I have many ideas for the next maps. The scenario, it's easy because it's the first scenario, but maybe I'll harden it a bit. Anyway, when I posted it, I selected "Easy" as the level. About the stone, I think it's a great idea, and I'll test it.

I was thinking... maybe I could make the CP a larger army, and add to the objetives someting like, "Bring the Chariot (or Hero Tiberius) to the Government Center" and of course that it must survive. Of course, I'll make a backup of the actual .scn file

What is the best way to make fences on the Scenario editor? In the scenario I'm making there is an estate and in this estate I want some stables with a yard next to it were the horses can be (I'm using that horse template). So whats the best way to create fences. I tried using that wooden wall trick but it doesn't look right.

Btw I'm working on a Campaign. I haven't decided what the name is yet but it will be about a young captain who goes against the evil king of his nation rising up from owning a simple estate to recruiting an army that will otherthrow the King. It is fiction but I'm going to use the lands and kingdoms I've created and wrote short stories on as the setting. This will make it feel more historical.

While I'm here I have a technical problem too. I have two computers, one I use during the day and the other I play on at night when my parents kick me off the other pc and AoE won't install on the latter. It gets to 16%ish and it says Graphics.drs wont install or something. When I click 'Ignore' the graphics in the game fail to load. I've solved this problem before but I can't remember how. Does anyone know what I should do?

@ Gaius: You could use cacti or dead trees, aswell as a small wall.

For your technical problem, I don't know. Does that computer have the requirements, and are you administrator on it?

You should use a mixture of dead trees (found in the gaia menu and in the "forest" brush);
Or, if you want a low fence, use dead trees (only the small ones) in combination with invisible trees:

Note that you have to put down the tree forest squares first, then slap the dead trees on. Of course you can vary their density/mixture for different effects (Sometimes I also use the yellow beeches).
The small print part: Make sure no villies get near these fences. They'll just chop 'em down. Which is annoying

*UPDATE*
Darn, LittleFreak, you beat me to it.

Thanks. Now I've hit another snag lol. There is a computer controlled civ called 'Slaves' and they hack away at the fence. I'll have to block the path with trees or something.

Heh I've just thought of a good idea. I'm going to include everyones name in my campaign just for the pure heck of it. For example, one of the enemy generals is going to be called Ingo van Thiel and one of the enemy legions is going to be called the 'Fire Legions' as well as the forest men known as the 'Dark Archers'. I'm going to try and use as many names as possible but I may not be able to use everyones. This might be a pointless post for anyone who don't care bout my campaign but bleh... I'm really getting back into AoE now.

I know this might be a little early to release another campaign but, you guessed it, I am!

The campaign is for AoE, and I am on my first scenario. (I picked AoE for the designing advantage)

I haven't come up with a name for it, but what happens is your best friend get's captured by an army that swept through the land.

To rescue your friend in this two-scenario campaign (I might make more scenarios), you have to capture a General and make him talk.

Remember the kill-a-person-to-receive-reinforcements trick?
I am going to use that.

Anyone got any suggestions for my new creation?

PS: Andrea: You can add me to the Designer's Board.

EDIT: The campaign is fiction. (just in case you assumed it was historical )

Make sure you are using the full and right adress of the image between the [ IMG] tags. Also, most of the web hosters only host jpeg images or the like, so save your bmp image in jpeg format before uploading it. Use www.imageshack.usto upload your pic - it will give you the full adress of the image so you will just need to copy and paste.

Ah, it works now. Balázs seems to be an all-round genius.

Naah it's all that if something doesn't work - keep on trying until you find out how it DOES work

I'm planning to drop in some (relatively) new AI and Per tricks into the design contest, but I'll let the judges be good-eyed enough to find them

Heh I did the first scanrio instructions writing last night and it was so long I had to carry it on in the history section. I hope I dont have to carry on the history into the hints or anything like that :P

Btw, what is AI and PER. I know its something that changes how the computer reacts but do you have to make them yourself using some software or something?

@ Gaius: AI and Per control how the computer behaves. The AI (Artificial Intelligence) controls what he builds, what units he trains and what techs he does research. The Per (Personality) controls what he does with his units.

In the players menu you can set strategy (AI) and Character (Per). You can use the default ones, but for more advanced things like, for example, the computer asking for tribute you need to create your own AI or Per files. To do so, you can download the AI-Editor and the Personality-Editor at the Granary. You can also do it another way, but for me using those programms is easier.

For more information, look at the articles in the Siege Workshop.

Hope that helped.
