Welcome to the AoEH Designers' Board, a thread aimed to gather the last active designers and keep them in contact. The Board shows in alphabetical order people who are currently working on AoE/RoR scenarios and campaigns. To join the Board simply post here and give some little details about your work, such as the game (AoE or RoR), the setting (Historical, Fiction or Fantasy) and the subject (what is your campaign about?). This is also a good place to ask help to other designers, seek for playtesters, post your screenshots, and unleash your design frustrations.

Updates on your progresses are optional, but highly welcome, so if you are working on a multi-level campaign you may post here as you finish a particular scenario, and your status will be updated. Once your game is published, it will be listed among the 'Released Projects'.

Oh no, I'm not deserting anything. Until I sort out all my AoE stuff this'll be on the back burner, I don't expect it to be done for a year or more. But anyway, Nippon is almost done, when I'm finished reviewing the MMC stuff I'll see if I can finish it fast.

Or left puzzled. Some playtester I am, the villagers can just WALK into Napata and find the catapult! No need to build that tower any more. Also the vc's no longer work, I brought the heroes to the island and totally annihilated the enemy base (I played it on easiest this time it should really be played on hard) and nothing happened! Perhaps when you removed one of the barracks you forgot to change the vc from kill 4 plr7 barracks to kill 3?

The trees won't help, using the gather/task on other resource you could eventually free them. Also you could just grab a catapult from the big army and discover the hcat in the base.

I don't really get the point of Napata anyways, why not just discover the big army and blitz player7 and finish the scenario really fast?

Shoot, did you run through the trees to get to the army? You're supposed to discover Napata, build a transport there, sail down the Nile with that, run through the yellow zone, THEN discover the army.

I need to heavily edit this so that you can't pass through the trees so easily. The forests should be solid.

Yeah, there were gaps in the trees. If the catapult in Napata is a hvy cat then you can blast through the trees and get to the army, or just discover them with it's huge line of sight. Why is there a catapult there anyways? Didn't you play your scenario before sending it to me? I thought that I was only supposed to find the little bugs in it, not test it completely.

The catapult is in Napata to blast the trees out of the way using Attack Ground. This also kills your unfortunate little gatekeeper, preventing him from getting out and helping you win. It's cruel, but necessary.

I blocked the trees off by placing cliffs in front of them, so they are now impassible, forcing you to use Plan B: Sail a rickety raft down the Nile while being shot at constantly.

I did play my campaign many times, the problem is, I was focusing on balancing specific things. For some odd reason, it never occured to me that a player would move the catapult. Of course, the average player wouldn't KNOW the army was there, unless they used Reveal Map and No Fog, and then they might as well win with Home Run. You, as a playtester, however, know the ins and outs of the scenario. Still, it's my bad for not realizing that.

I should probably make some more changes, like preventing you from exiting Napata with the catapult, or making it stationary.

Hey, I'm only human. I make lots of mistakes. That's why there's update.

Being playtester is fun because you get a backstage pass to what everyone else only gets a screenshot of. Sadly, since I know all the ins and outs I can't rate it, otherwise I would. Once again, thanks for rating my FoI teaser.

Why do you need to blow the trees anyway? Also beware of blocking things with allied walls if they won't change diplomacy on attack, otherwise you could just blow a hole in the wall and walk through to someplace you shouldn't with no consequences.

No problem, and don't hesitate to ask me to playtest anything in the future. I'm busy except on weekends due to school starting, but I can help out in any way.

Also, I deleted the multitude of horrific bugs that plagued my scenario. Now...
-You can't move the catapult.
-You can't escape through the forests thanks to random cliffs.
-You have to find the catapult with the Sentry Tower.
-The only way to find the army is to travel down the Nile by collecting wood and building a transport. Unless there's not enough wood. I'll check.

The trees block your heroes from reaching the dock where you build your ships. Oh wait, you can sail UP the river... Darn. Time for Update #5! Hopefully once this is patched up, it'll score high.

And if you blow a hole through the wall, then oh well, if that's how you play it, fine. But still, would you randomly blow up a ally for fun? I wouldn't. And I'm sure all games have some kind of loopholes.

Btw. You can put the burning cat missiles back in for the campfires, only the swimming men crased it, I tested it myself.

Who's teh ch3ter n0w! Sadly, you can still kidnap the hcat in Napata by deleting the dock after creating the boat and loading it in. Fix it by painting desert under it in the ee. Also the gray blp converts the tower as soon as I build it. I can still break out the villagers by tasking them on wood and then on stone repeat until breakthrough. There is a shortage of wood, you can't research the techs and build the boat. I can't reach the storage pit and villie across from the starting point. Without enough wood what is the point of the archery range you get later? I can't reach the second blue blp, move him out from the green farms.

I'm exhausted, all this typing is killing me. All these bugs.

The 2nd BLP is reachable by Fahim only. The other two heroes must return to priest 1 or fight through to priest 3.

As long as the tower discovers the catapult, it doesn't matter who owns it. You're destroying it anyway. It's an added bonus, I suppose, because the catapult will auto-target the tower instead of forcing you to attack ground.

The hidden villager was supposed to be captured by sailing through the bridge, but I blocked it off do to complications.

I added more trees already, there should be enough unless I uploaded the wrong version. I'll test to make sure.

EDIT: I looked into the wood and found that if you discover both desert pits, the strip of land NW on the map, and the cliff overhanging the small town you get the Granary, you'll have 455 Wood, enough to get the techs, a transport, a house for your ships and eventual units, and still have enough for 2 fishing ships and a transport. This is if you find all the resource caches.

I'll make another version to deal with the catapult smugglers and prevent your villager from escaping with the invisible Tree Forest unit.

I retested, and I found I could reach all the storage pits. Maybe there's a difference between patches, or you just have an older version?

I'd like to thank you for putting up with me and my horrible excuse for testing, I should have tested it more but I wanted to get it finished as soon as I could. I apologize for rushing it and giving you an unfinished project.

You've ironed out pretty much all of the bugs now, and I don't expect you to continue cleaning up after me. You can stop replaying it now if you want, as I bet you are probably sick of seeing Fahim and his friends over and over.

Once again, thanks for continuing to help me even after the release, I am now indebted to you.

EDIT: I'm choosing to leave the fires out, they crashed my computer too, and I don't want to risk having it work on only 50% of computers.

You're welcome, I enjoyed playing it, and yes, I am sick of it by now. Someone else will have to test MotE III.

I probably just couldn't figure out how to reach them. Still, I bet in the end I'll still be able to beat it the wrong way, I'm good at that.

Didn't anyone read the end messages? "To be continued..." I've got a few ideas bouncing in my head.

Also, during a boring class today, I thought of the most random scenario idea ever. I'm going to probably build from it in my head, with no planning, and see how it turns out.

I always build my scenarios out of my head spontaneously. I can invent whole castles in my head, I can envision things in 3d and mechanical things are a snap. I never actually plan a scenario, I just have ideas and try them out and if I like what I see I go the rest of the way.

I've been working on FoI lately, building the big city in the last level which is why I have also been spending a lot of time playing Ingo's stuff, he always finds ways to make his cities look natural, he thinks of details that we would forget.

I like to build big orderly cities with grids and straight streets. The problem is that sometimes they're a bit too sqaure.

My cities are messy, with alleys and curving streets. I try to hide the square-ness of the buildings in AoE to make it look natural. A capitol city would be orderly and neat but most cities have lots of infrastructure and buildings added onto the original buildings.

For the capitol city in FoI I'm having a messy city but there will be a big area in the middle that's ordered and full of gardens.

I design the map on paper, write down the players and VCs, and design city layouts before I open the editor. However, when it comes to map design, I just throw down a ton of cacti, shallow tiles, and desert patches and pray to the Map Design gods that it'll come out right.

For the MMC, my city was actually pretty orderly.

I still have a MASSIVE city plan made on a gigantic map, with a sailable aqueduct circling the border of the map. It would take ages to make, but I'll get to it eventually. So far, the aqueduct is only done.

Title: PowerSquid and the Lemon Republic
Game: Not yet sure
Scenarios: 6
Type: Fantasy
Stage: Planning
Overview: The year 2015: Farkas Lomopo seems like a normal guy. Average income. Dull personality. Boring day job. However, when danger strikes, he goes into a bathroom stall as a frightened bystander and comes out as PowerSquid, defender of humanity! However, one night, after getting extremely drunk at a party, he comes to the conclusion that modern life is boring. In his drunken haze, he decides to freeze himself in ice for 500 years. The year 2515: Things have changed...

I still need to come up with a good map design scheme for the project, which is pretty hard, considering it takes place in a dystopian future filled with trash and fire. I've got all the ideas, though.

My other project is a... erm... secret... for now.

It's my special design cigar. For me only, though, find your own!

Actually, this was suprisingly not created under the influence of drugs. I was tired, but I couldn't fall asleep, and the storyline randomly popped into my head. It's going to be an interesting ride, with lots of cheat units and radioactive bats.

EDIT: I'm putting that in my sig, NJ. Hope you don't mind.

Never, ever laugh at PowerSquid. Seriously, I'm not kidding.

The secret project is actually progressing pretty well, and somehow all the stars aligned and I made some excellent per. files for it. I'm going to keep it simple and not even use the EE, so the design should take you back to the 90's. It'll still look good, except it won't have 50,000 cacti.

Also, Fruktfisk, when's the Gooties Stories going to be finished? I want to play it soon, it looks good.
