Welcome to the AoEH Designers' Board, a thread aimed to gather the last active designers and keep them in contact. The Board shows in alphabetical order people who are currently working on AoE/RoR scenarios and campaigns. To join the Board simply post here and give some little details about your work, such as the game (AoE or RoR), the setting (Historical, Fiction or Fantasy) and the subject (what is your campaign about?). This is also a good place to ask help to other designers, seek for playtesters, post your screenshots, and unleash your design frustrations.

Updates on your progresses are optional, but highly welcome, so if you are working on a multi-level campaign you may post here as you finish a particular scenario, and your status will be updated. Once your game is published, it will be listed among the 'Released Projects'.

Put TGGA on hold because my AoE computer has picked up some spyware or a virus or somthing like that and now it won't do anything. I can get back all my work though the network but I won't be able to play or design for AoE until I get a new computer or find out a way to get my old one to do something.

Hopefully I'll have enough money to buy a new computer by early next year but that will depend on how I do in my exams (I get money for every credit I get ) and if I can get some money for Christmas or a summer job (it's spring overhere right now).

Edit: After playing around with my computer a bit it's seems to we going although it is still full got a lot of things wrong with it but it might still work.

Maybe you should try these:
- Spybot (against spyware)
- Ad-Aware (against advertisements & worms)
- AntiVir (its name stand for itself)

Since I got Ad-Aware and AntiVir I had no more problems concerning any spyware, virus or worms.

Oh, I forgot to mention a few days ago I made an PER where the villagers actually stand still. I couldn't get them to stop chopping wood if they were right next to the trees, but they stood still otherwise, while testing with normal PERs sent them off exploring, building etc. I haven't tested a lot with it yet, and it's basically just a copy of the AoK Immobile units lines with a few left out/added on. Might be good though if you wanted to make say a stadium where the villagers would stand still, or something like that.

I've got a small project that I've been kicking around to get off the ground. It's going to be just a one scenario campaign, historical based-"Cincinnatus: Defender of Rome" This is about Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus who was elected Dictator of Rome by the Senate for only six months, during which he defeated two tribes which threatened the young republic and saved a Roman army at the battle of Mons Algidus. Any opinions on this topic- I know someone did it on AOK, but I've never seen it done AOE/ROR. I'm still working out Duty of a Soldier but this could be an easier first design.

I doubt all of the numbers are needed either, but per files are always a guessing game, and examing each number individually is something nobody is ever going to have time to do

Let me know how it goes. As I understand the only weakness is that villagers will probably gather from resources they can see, but won't go exploring for them. It's a pretty big flaw, but their gathering tendancy seems to be 'read only'. The same basic files seems to do the trick in AoK, but that is a different game, so it's little surprise.

It's the overall feeling that counts. Even the greatest ideas are worth nothing if they're executed poorly, or if the scenario looks like it's done in two minutes. It's sad, but that's how it is. =/

blizzardius, were not complaining about the tricks, its just everything else. The map looks ugly, the story is a copy cat. There is no bit map.

Also, just using tricks willy nilly for no reason that doesn't fit in with the stroy and map, ideas etc... is also not a good look.

Grrr....
I hope I made my self clear.

Good stuff BA, it always feels good to finish a scenario

I think that's been said enough about the tricks and such. As we've said before though, there are two other submissions to review that were there before yours, and if you don't want to write a review you can't complain that you're not getting any feedback. I'll do one eventually if nobody else has before me but it could still be a few weeks. The first submission of yours will probably be better removed because the second one includes it, so it would be easier to review the two as a single submission.

My problem is I always work hard on a project until it is near finished, then lose interest a little and start something else. It's so gosh darned newbic!

Seeing as I've been working on this project for almost a year (or longer) now and did not really get anything done I guess I really need help. I'll just contact you whenever I need a helping hand, thanks.

Usually, I design a lot, then suddenly don't like my work anymore. Though it might just have been that I didn't research enough and made too much up. For instance, in the very first Kassite scenario I made you had to kill Samsu-Illuna who was king of Babylon at that time. With a little more research, I would have known that Samsu-Illuna had actually repelled them and that the Kassites only managed to conquer Babylon after its fall to the Hittites in 1595 BC (see third Voices of Babylon scenario).

I do the same thing Richard. In fact I'll take your advice on working a couple hours here and there on the design. The hardest part is getting started. But given I won't have much time off left after the 1st of January. I had better get a start on it.

I forgot to mention the ideas I have for "Cincinnatus: For the Senate and People of Rome" (New title, I believe someone on AOK had a similar title)

1) Cincinnatus is going to be represented by A Hero Priest unit.
2) I want to have a CP player that is ally engaged against an enemy, similar to Richard's "Tiberius"
3) I want another CP player that is an ally but the player must "rally" his army which means conversion, especially the CP player's hero unit, which then must be sent back to Rome.
4) Victory condition- Player must have NO less than a certain amount of food. This is to simulate that Cincinnatus was a farmer and thus, if he didn't get back to his farm to harvest his crops, his family would starve.
5) Time limit- Again Cincinnatus only served 16 months. You won't have all the time in the world to do everything.

So any suggestions would be appreciated.

I usually have a lot of ideas and never get them done.

Not AOK, but AOE. Have a look at the title of Andrea's first campaign.

I love watching two computers fight each other. Good idea.

This is a very good idea, but how are you going to do this? I don't think there's a possible way to set this up in the editor.

You can do it with gold, and perhaps indirectly food using merchant ships (if food is the only resource you can have) but I think he means as a victory condition, rather than a 'lose if you don't have this much' sort of thing.

LF, I Andrea's campaign was titled SPQR(Senate and People of Rome) but there is a Cincinnatus campaign titled "Defender of Rome" done on AOK. Maybe I should just title it, "Hero of the Republic" or something. Yeah the food VC is going to be a bit tricky, maybe Richard is right to use the gold instead.

Yay!!!! My campaign( the forest) finally got reviewed and I'm not disappointed( I expected a 2,6 myself) because it is my first one and i didnt put any efford in the eyecandy.
I am surprised that its even rated better than quite some campaigns.

The next campaign I'll make is going to be better.
It will be about
"Hero of the Twelve Tasks" and its not Hercules...And I'll make it as beautiful as I can. With of course some tricks
( I guess I'll never totally lose the tricks feeling)
but not too many.

Can saved scenarios be edited with the new empire.dat file available in the downloads? I use ROR, so could I save a .scn created in AOE with the new .dat file and reopen it in the editor in ROR? Just wondering.

Yes, it's possible. All you need to do is use the new .dat and everything will be fine.

Nothing will change unless you save, which will turn it into a .scx file.

We've always been able to edit AoE scenarios in RoR. But if we put RoR objects in the scenario we can't take it back to AoE. Hidden objects can be used in existing scenarios, though actual save game files would be very difficult to edit and can't be converted into scenario form.
