Watch towers works well against scouts and bowman but not much against axeman and slingers, so if you get a civ that got slingers make slingers and axeman the stone better use it to wall and slingers, but all depends on how fast you can tool because if you tool 2 minutes later than his rush you are in trouble 1 minute you still can counter it or run.
If he does a 14 villager if he is so fast got a really good micromanagement he will hit tool 7 minutes I haven't tried maybe you can do 6 but I am not going there. 8 minutes with 20 villagers is possible but its hard to do it sometimes if you get bad maps not possible it will be easier with 16.
Also use buildings to close passageways, towers are good at some point.
Camels rush can be killed with your 28 villagers or 32 if they only upgrade 1 armor if they do 2 upgrades impossible make hoplites. Also alot of bowman with armor plus some villagers works well, this is something that many people online don't do and you learn it by campaign make alot of axeman and bowman with both upgraded tool and bronze armor.
It takes 3 bowman to take down 1 camel, 4 bowman or 1 calvary, slingers I haven't tested slingers hit the enemy really fast but not really effective against calvary may be some against camels it will take like 6 slingers vs 1 camel and maybe 7 against 1 calvary. Make the production advantage 5 axeman may take 1 camel down if he makes calvaries axeman doesn't works well, axeman upgraded iron age many axeman can stand some support against long swordman and have some ballista support from back.
Remember slingers comes out faster than bowman and cheaper.
If later you can upgrade to sentry towers with architecture his camels won't easily kill your towers but calvaries may be and hoplites will destroy your sentry towers and chariots because they are cheap not CA. Slingers are so effective against chariots better than bowman.
