Ok
1: Open slp studio
2: open graphics.drs either from data or data2
you now see a list of all the slp files. Some consist of multiple frames. With the arrows you can play the graphic.
3: Find the slp you were looking for.
4: choose convert frame or convert all frames
You can select a map to put the frames in.
5: The slp is now extracted into one or more bmp and text files.
Each frame has a txt file, G...Bmp and S.bmp
The text file is for the coordinates, for units aoe usually pick a place near the feet of the unit. The g.bmp is the graphic you actually see in-game. the s.bmp is a outline of the unit (black is transparent, all else white except for player colour things).
6: open the g.bmp in paint or something else.
7: change whatever you want.
The slp needs a special pallete. It's easiest to copy-paste the new bmp over an original aoe-bmp so that the pallete is done automatically (at least in paint).
8 Save the new g.bmp , but change the g to an s.
9 in this s.bmp make the unit white except for player colour.
10 Either make an textfile for the coordinates or in slp studio right click on a suitable spot and it's done automatically.
You can either overwrite an old slp or add a new one. For adding you will need another tool, which name escapes me at the moment.
This should help you further. Post any question if you don't get something.
Always make back-ups of you old graphic.drs before you start editing them. Else you might need to reinstall or copy file from the aoe-disc.
Oh and in between step 9 and 10 you need to import the G.bmp(the textfile and s.bmp will be imported automatically with the g.bmp) into the slp.
