well, if your playing against human players and no AI players, I would use slingers and axeman. Your opponent would be laughing so hard that they leave the game and then you win be default.

But in all seriousness though, who wouldn't go for units at the end of the tech tree? you'd be stupid if you didn't.

Funny, but your average opponent would have a good laugh and then overwhelm it with AE/HCats. I would flood scythes/CAs myself, which would be equally funny(when not facing priests).

HCats + HHAs + Scythes are my favourite. I know AEs are awesome too, but they walk too slowly for my liking.

And I'm afraid of priests when it comes to this part of the game.

Anyway, I usually play DM starting in post Iron too, together with full reveal. Most online games are like that, rather than starting from Stone. It's more fun like this because you can immediately get all your superunits and start a big fight.

For me, I can paint the map. Irritating for the opponent but fun for me.

Gumble has found a 30,30,30 mix of elephant archers, heavy catapults, and helipolis all fully upgraded to be very devestating. Everything other than catapults will get munched by a group of 50 fully upgraded helipoli. Especailly if they are stationary. Let the fodder come to you...

Roman legions and helopolii, or Greek centurions and helopolii.

Use HC's if not using hand to hand combat units, otherwise I find they get squashed.

Of course, NOTHING beats a horde of KamLs...

A magic civ, Gumble doesnt know. All he knows is that the combo rocks. And Camels!? seriously? In a dm game that has a lot of resources any heavycalvay/catapract unit would own camels.

Camels actually do beat Heavy cavalry, and in terms of cost I think they're pretty much even with the cataprachts.

I'm bored of the turtle-speed of the academy units. Why not try the mounted.. centurion strategy???

A scenario that can be described creative for its objectives is the one that by typing "die die die" you will be defeated.

Today I was rushed by hittite HHA's, they actually beat my armored ellies after a lot of reatreating, but then I had HCats up.

Elephant archers, maybe? They can't really retreat when they have to come within your range to shoot at you. Then again, the HHA is the best cavalry archer in the game, going mainly on sheer attack power.

And decent HPs, armor and of course speed. They could be the fastest land unit: faster than hack cavalry.

Besides, a regular HA can beat a CA in a fair 1v1, fair meaning nobody tries scoot-and-shoot tactics. The only reason an HHA couldn't beat an EA in fair 1v1 is because the ele has 600 HP!
Also, HAs and HHAs have 2 pierce armor. Which I have learned is a big deal in this neck of the woods.

I think PIA Assyrian villagers and Palmyrn? camels are also the same speed as HHA's. EA's get squashed by HCats.

Haven't played online since the zone became roadkill, but I would say rush immediately with scythe (assuming iron start, no upgrades required here) to start harassing the opponent, backed by AE (you already have the stables up), and then finish with heavy cats (if the player is still standing!)

Without full tech tree, i would go for persian ele rush

Centurions with ballistas up front, with HCats to knock out towers. Ballistas are nearly impossible to dodge, and a larger pain in the you-know-what than even HCats.

Sure, Heleopoli are even better. The Problem is that although they're awesome against any melee unit, Even Scythes, HCats pwn them in a single attack. One rock breaks down multiple ballistas before they get a chance to hit it. However if you opponents civ doesn't have HCats I clearly prefer the Heleopoli.

That could be useful, jordanthejq12. Of course with the same investement they stand no chance agains an army composed only of Heavy cats. If they hit the helepoli and Centurions first (and they will because of they better range) the battle would be decided. And, assuming, they have the same range, the enemy h cats would join the battle too late, and maybe even facing a superior force (vecause instead of investing in helepoli and centurions it was invested in h cats). Instead of centurions i would use elephants of course no civ has elephants Hcats and helepoli.
Also i guess greek higher speed academy units could be useful in this situation, making it a bit more interesting.
