Well since you have DSL you must have a firewall. Firewalls dont let software in or out of the internet.

I dont know for him but for me when I try to access it for the first time, a popup thing will come from the taskbar and ask if it can go to the internet. From there you have to choose yes to get in and there is usually a password.

I dont think you have to disable the wall to play online... Though I am not sure how his program works.

The program just exits while setting up? Or do you mean it freezes? I'm more familiar with the latter though, and as the others have pointed out, it's usually a firewall problem.
