Guys, I’m not saying Ancient times were so hunky dorie lovy dovy, for no time period is! But compared to the middle ages YES!!!!!!! So don’t think I’m saying that ancient times had NO disease, cuz even now with all the tech we have there is still disease.
To elijeh, if Babylon (one of the most beautiful and splendid cities in the world) was a pit of FILTH!!!, than I’d hate to see the middle ages!!!!!! it is not logical to think that Babylon was a pit of filth!! Listen what I have to quote here, and you tell me if this sounds like a pit of filth!!!!!!!!!
“ The character of the Babylonian Empire is indicated by the head of gold. It was the golden kingdom of a golden age. Babylon, its metropolis, towered to a height never reached by any of its successors. Situated in the garden of the East; laid out in a perfect square said to be sixty miles in circumference, fifteen miles on each side; surrounded by a wall estimated to have been two hundred to three hundred feet high and eighty-seven feet thick………it’s two hundred and twenty-five square miles of enclosed surface laid out in luxuriant pleasure grounds and gardens, interspersed with magnificent dwellings-------this city, with its sixty miles of moat, its sixty miles of outer wall, its thirty miles of river wall through its enter, its gates of solid brass, its hanging gardens rising terrace above terrace till they equaled in height the walls themselves, its temple of Belus three miles in circumference, its two royal palaces, one three and a half and the eight miles in circumference, with its subterranean tunnel under the River Euphrates connecting these two palaces, its perfect arrangement for convenience, ornament, and defense, and its unlimited resources—this city, containing in itself many things which were themselves wonders of the world, was itself another and still mightier wonder, There, with the whole earth prostrate at her feet, a queen in peerless grandeur, drawing from the pen of inspiration itself this glowing title,” The glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency,” stood this city, fit capital of that kingdom which was represented by the golden head of this great historic image.”(Daniel and the Revelation, by U. smith.)
" It grew to greatness in the time of Nebuchadnezzar, and became a kingdom of great wealth and glory in the world. In building Babylon, the capital city, Nebuchadnezzar had built the greates city that the world had known up to that time." (Daniel and our Times, by R.J Wieland)
"The city was the wonder of the ancient world, bigger than oridnary cities of that time, being about 10 miles in circumference. The great river Euphrates flowed though it. Great walls surrounded the city. Huge brass gates guarded the entrances to the city by way of the river Euphrates. Lovely gardens and magnificent palaces were kept in good condition by slaves. Two great palaces were built one on either side of the river Euphrates, joined by a tunnel running under the river to allow people to go back and forth. Babylon said, "I shall be a lady forever.... I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children" (Isaiah 47:7-8". This kingdom of Babylon was indeed the head of gold." (Daniel and our Times, by R.J wieland)
"Not only the power, but the wisdom also, of Nebuchadnezzar was exceedingly great. The king favored education, and during his reign Babylon was the educational center of the world. Every art and science was taught in the schools of Babylon. The wisdom of the ancients was made known to the students who sat at the feet of her magicians and wise men. They revealed in the study of astronomy and the higher mathematics. There was linguists who could teach the language of every nation. The king himself was highly educated, for it was he who examined the students on the completion of their course. Babylon was proud of her educational system; she trusted to it for salvation, ......" (The story of Daniel the Prophet, by S. N. Haskell)
“The fabulous wealth of the New Empire (626 to 539 BC) derived from controlling the east-west and north-south trade, primarily thanks to control of Phoenicia, Syria, and the other Levant ports. This area had been the nexus of civilized trade for over a thousand years, and, for that reason, the prize for every empire and pseudo-empire of the age. Not long after the end of the Babylonian New Empire, the shift of much trade to the central and western Mediterranean reduced the importance of this area.” (Age of Empires help: Babylonian culture (economy) )
“….the New Empire was among the richest in the world. The city reflected that wealth in its extensive and highly decorated monuments. The interior of the Temple of Marduk was reportedly covered with gold.At the center of a great and rich trading empire, the people of Babylon had access to exotic goods and manufactured items from throughout the world.” (Age of Empires help: Babylonian culture (Religion and culture) )
“The Babylon of the New Empire period was one of the wealthiest cities in the world. The Chaldean kings rebuilt the city and established its reputation for splendor for all time. The Euphrates River passed through the middle of the city and was directed around its four sides through a moat. Inside the moat were double walls. The Greek historian Herodotus claimed that the outer wall was so wide that a chariot with four horses could drive along it. There were several city gates, each named after an important god. The Ishtar gate opened on the sacred Processional Way that led to the ziggurat and Temple of Marduk. The gate, sacred way, and temples were decorated with bright blue glazed tiles depicting real and fantasy animals in relief. The two sides of the city were connected by a bridge. The east side contained the palace and temples, including many ziggurats. The greatest of these, built by Nebuchanezzar II, had seven levels with a small temple to Marduk at the top. This ziggurat was probably the Tower of Babel mentioned in the Bible. Nebuchanezzar also built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, a multistoried ziggurat decorated with trees and plants to resemble a mountain. According to legend, the gardens were built to remind one of his wives of her mountain homeland. The Hanging Gardens were one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.” (Age of Empires help: Babylonian culture (Architecture) )
”The New Empire of Babylon was noted especially for its wealth and grandeur. This was reported in Old Testament accounts from the period of the Hebrew Babylonian Captivity and by the Greek historian Herodotus who visited the city. The most impressive features of the city were its walls, the Ishtar Gate, the ziggurat and temple to Marduk, the Processional Way, and the Hanging Gardens.” (Age of Empires help: Babylonian culture (legacy) )
These quotes were from books incase you were wondering.
If it was true that Babylon was a pit of filth than it would say this:“tho the city was very splendid, the streets and houses were of unbelievable filth” WHY doesn’t it say that?, cuz there’s no such thing!!!, it was a city of gold, it was the most beautiful city in the world (with the possible exception of Thebes in egypt). Of course there was disease in the city!! There could be a dimond with a fatal disease on it, but you can’t physically see it on the dimond you see???, it is not physically or seeably there tho. In the middle ages you could see the filth, and the goop that was in the city. If the middle ages were as good as ancient days then how come when I pick up a history book it tells me this??? Then I pick up a history book about the middle ages and it tells me what I told you in earlier posts????? There has to be a inferiority there if that happens!! And you also stated you can’t prove that Babylon was a pit of filth, of course you can’t!!!!!!! because there’s no such thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t state something that you can’t prove elijeh ok? Why do you say that Babylon had poor people?? Of course there was poor people! But even the poor people had a higher standard of living than the serfs in the middle ages! The poor people in the ancient times were freemen, but not in the middle ages. lets take for instance Egypt, were the slaves Egyptian?? NO, but were there poor people in Egypt?? Of course!!! But at least they were a lot more free than the serfs in the middle ages!! The slaves in ancient Egypt were made up of tho’s they conquered in battle, and the Hebrews which later were freed under Moses. The serfs in the middle ages were of the same blood as the people who enslaved them. Elijeh I could go on and on…………………. But I don’t have all day to type. I could quote hundreds of more quotes on how Babylon was the wonder of the world. It’s a poor argument to say that Babylon was a pit of filth, I mean really POOR, because you know your going to lose it! There’s no way your going to convince the world that Babylon was a pit of filth, NO WAY!!!!!!!!! I did learn 1 thing tho is that you told me that The priests ruled Babylon, cuz I didn’t know that! I only knew that the Egyptian priests almost completely ruled Egypt but I didn’t know that the Babylonian priests ruled Babylon. I still would like some proof on that tho, cuz I’ve never read that in one book related to Babylon. Actually I probably don’t need a quote about it cuz why would the Babylonians be one of the best priest civs in aoe if that weren’t true?? I don’t think the priests ruled over Nebuchadnezzar tho Thanx for that tip If the poverty and slums which Elijeh is talking about (that made Babylon such a pit of filth)were so noted, than it should tell me that, in the 1book that I open up (related to this topic). When I read all these books which is a lot, I mean a lot of books and facts on this subject, it doesn’t tell me anything about the slums of Babylon. When I pick up Just 1 book about the MA it tells me of the slums and poverty there was. Now don’t get me wrong cuz I’m not saying ancient days had no poverty, or slums!!!!!!!! It’s just that it wasn’t as noted or as bad as the middle ages.
I would like to know something (to you Elijeh) When I say Babylon, Thebes, Rome etc…what time of tho’s cities are you referring to?? I’m only Talking of Babylon as “Glorious” at the time of Babylon’s height, I’m not talking about Babylon (or Thebes Rome etc…) at the time when they had been over with there height, or glory.
Even if you do find something that says “Babylon had slums”, that only proves that you have to look and search and look and search just to find 1 book that says “Babylon had slums”. I don’t have to do a horde of research just to find that the middle ages was a pit of filth, and the same to prove that Babylon was one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
I mean even if there was slums in Babylon, why do you include it as just as bad as the M A? in the MA the whole city was a slum! The slums in Babylon were probably quite far from the other part of the city, if there were any.
Now talking Bible wise (this is only if you believe in the Bible, so don’t discuss this paragraph if you don’t believe in the Bible) what were the greatest empires of the world??? Babylon, Persia (actually Medo-Persia), Greece, Rome (Egypt is included, but it is a long story why). The middle ages (and now days) are the feet of the image. Babylon was symbolized as the head of gold, Persia: the breast and arms of silver, Greece: the belly and thighs of Brass, Rome: the legs of Iron, middle ages (modern day too) : feet, part of Iron and part of clay. Why weren’t some of the kingdoms in the middle ages included as one of the greatest empires on earth????? Because they weren’t!. there is no other time period in history that has equaled the Ancient times!!!!!! It was the golden age of history, it was the most splendid and glorious time period in history ( not saying it was heaven, just saying it was the most luxurious and magnificent time period in history). PPPPllllllllleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaassssssssssseeeeeeeeee don’t start a big huge subject on ancient vs modern days!!!!!!! All I’m saying is that there is no other time period in history that has met the grandeur and glory of Ancient times. Actually ancient days were far more advanced then we are today because, look at the tech they had!!! They started with nothing, and comparitivly they were allot more advanced than today. We just added on top of what they had already researched. So if you add it all up, there researches were allot more advanced than ours cause they started with nothing. But of course I wouldn’t want to live back then more than I would today!! Cuz look, I can replay all that history on the computer and still have all the comforts of today
P.S. I hope you read this thoroughly and didn’t skip thru it sorry it is so long P.S. to Theimistocles: I have the proof now, that the Catholic church killed over 50million people if you want me to give it to you. so just tell me if you want it ok
