I want to know something. Why is this forum of AoE folks, old friends of the game, not embracing AoM?

I downloaded the AoM demo. Didn't work on my desktop, but did on my laptop. And what I see of it on my laptop is beautiful.

I've not bought the game. Good grief, I have yet to master AoE/RoR. But I want to know what is the silence here regarding AoM about?

Now I did not like AoK. Huge buildings, etc. Is AoM just another overblown AoE like AoK was?

So where does everyone here stand regarding AoM?

Sara

Haven't bought it myself, or even looked at the demo. A friend of mine has it and said that it's more a fun game than one that can be strategised in the way that AoE/RoR can. I've not got time to get into a new game though...i'm not bored of AoE yet, so i'll stick around here for a while.

There's probably a lack of discussion about it here because Centy has scared us out of discussing anything but AoE/RoR with his "concerning AoEII" thread etc

Yes, REMEMBER everything related to AoM should be posted at aomh.

I've got AoM yes. It will NEVER defeat the impact like aoe/ror had back then, but it will be better than AoK. Yes, an other masterpiece by Ensemble. Beautiful graphics and good gameplay. But i must say it looks much like Warcraft 3 and EE though... And of course, where would AoM Be without it's hudge editor and online multiplay feature? This game is worth the price, it's a great game.

My scores:
AoE/RoR: 9
AoK/AoKTC: 7.5
AoM: 9

Yes, everyone should take a look at this game, they will get hooked.

Haven't got it yet, still playing with EE's vastly superior editor :-)

Just to clear this little matter up about talking about other games. A thread like this, just having a chat about other games, is fine, should be in VVV really but what the hell. We're not that picky, we just got fed up with people asking how to do specific things like strats, scenario design etc - they are what belong at the appropriate site. But just chatting about other games you like and why is ok.

I don't have the game myself, which is why I have been silent about it. As far as I can tell from people who do have it, playability etc is good and fun, only the editor is a litle disappointing after the sophistication of the editor in EE, but still, a lot can be modded and altered so scenario designers should have plenty of toys to play with.

I'll get it sooner or later, no rush for me though.

I wont get it, simply because I dont want it. I have Civillisation, AoE, EE and many others, and I'm happy with that.

I like AoM as a "sometimes" game, but the original games seem more filling in an odd yet satisfying sense. AoE usually hurts my eyes, but the tactics contained within it's simplicity are high in numbers. I admit I like AoK, since its the music and graphics that do me in. I am a huge fan of music and love to see it used with such nice results. AoM has fair music, but not altogether memorable.

AoM? Good graphics, so-so everything else. It's just another AoK with better graphics and some fancy-dress mythological stuff. The gameplay, resource collection etc are all basically the same. Which was why I got sick of it pretty fast (played at a friend's house, I don't have it). It also has fewer units than AoK as some take up more than one population space. That doesn't appeal to me, I like epic scale RTS like Cossacks and its standalone version, Back To War, and the upcoming American Conquest, which features a gaming record of 32,000 unit limit. Now those are brilliant games.

AoM is a nice game, and the ES campaign was great fun to play. The game has nice features, too - I enjoyed gathering with the Viking ox cart. Yet I still prefer the original AoE and AoK. Somehow the 2D look has more depth and detail in my view, and a different 'feel'. Good AoE and AoK maps were like living paintings that could suck me in, while the 3D AoM maps felt more like I was moving well-designed toy figures across the map. ES did a good job though. I'm a satisfied AoM customer, albeit not an overwhelmed one... now AoE and AoK beckon again.

Ah... we need a new barrage of custom scn/cpn... The ones in the Granary are excellent, but now we need some refreshing, seeing as there are no new ones lately...

Somehow, I prefer AoE to AoK - perhaps because I liked the period between Palaeolithic Age to Mid-Iron Age...? Hmmm...

You played all of them already? The old ones are as good as the new ones I guess. It will be hard to come with anything really new now, even Ingo would have a hard time with that. Nonetheless it would be great if he'd finally do the Tai Gun III.

Ingo, I think you captured the essence of the difference in AoE and AoM. (I just bought AoM yesterday after playing the demo.)

And despite it's new features and beauty, it IS like moving little figures around the map and I do not feel drawn into them.

AoE/RoR is so much more - if I may use the word - intimate.

Maybe that is why it is magic for so many of us.

Hope you create some more good scenarios for us!
