bowman rush, slinger rush, axer rush - run away, spread out your villies, and rebuild. Try to bronze fast, and when you do, make 3-4 cavs to clean up the huge expense your opponent went through. scout rush, cav rush, camel rush - wall in (best done in early tool, if they're killing you it's kinda late), also a group of bowmen (3-4x as many) will stop scouts and camels, and will slow down cavs ... once you get to bronze, 20+ bronze archers (CAs, compies, or impies w/2nd armor) demolish scouts/cavs/camels as well. CA rush - walling in can give you some time, but remember they can shoot whatever's in range (about 10 tiles) when they're at the wall. Massed compies (20+) put them away permanently. That's it for now.

Wedsaz,
Running from a tool rush is not the only option, although it is often the best. Howevewr early scouting and keeping an eye on your opponents achievements often gives you warning of an imminent rush.
Of course early walls are a must, in almost all games. Walling is the one thing that often seperates average players from good players. And good walling takes practice. Often using houses or barracks can be just as effective. Remember walling will never stop an enemy, but slows them down and acts as a warning so you can muster a defence.
Check your opponent's villager producvtion - if he stops around 20 you are sure a rush is on its way. And if it jumps up dramatically it is another warning (look for signs like largest army or most technologies).
You can often defeat a tool rush with a tool defence. It is often the most efficient way.
One last tip: If you are fighting at hme, and doing okay, and have managed to forward build near the enemy too it is often worth attacking his TC villagers. Hopefully he won't notice your attack as he is fighting elsewhere.

No always 20 though yorky, I've seen some good players stop at 16. One thing I like to do, is watch for the rush then when he'sw about to strike, he is most likly gonna send his whole army to your town, so I save a few villies and go build a wall around his Barracks, or TC, or a wood Storage pit maybe. That way they can't make more troops without taking some away from the attack, or build more villies, or get wood without building another SP, etc. Its very effective in buying time to bronze, BELIEVE ME. I'll get you a good 3-4 minutes sometimes! Using this and walling in, is a sure bet on stopping a rush by disruption.

darius: I noticed most skilled tool rushers build their barracks near or even in the enemy town (yours, in this case). Walling it in without going through his troops would be difficult at best. Also haven't you considered he might have a wall protecting his TC and storage pit, which would stop your villies from getting close enough to wall them in?

I didn't say it was a sure-fire strat, but it has worked for me numerous times. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it won't but its a good last resort, or desprate attempt at saving a game, or just as a precaution. OR you don't even have to do it when there rushing! If their booming, they will likely have no army, so go in with a few scouts, and build a wall around his TC, its kinda hard to boom when you can't make villies.

Hmm not tried that one darius, will give it some thought. I do hate being tooled, but is such a great feeling when you defeat it and go on to kill that pesky tooler!

I've been countered in so many horrible ways yes, walling in a town center really hurts the enemy, also if he runs from his pits rather then spend the time killing the pit...just wall it so he can't come back.
If you see a enemy wall, put 'your' wall against his...lol no escape now.
If you see a transpot on its way...try blocking the transports' movement with about 6 or 7 of your fishing boats. This will make your enemy scream at you cause it stops him dead in the water. Run a few villagers and build a tower or send one scout ship= a dead transport.

Thats a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Though I don't get many transports, that walling against his, could be a deadly treat, no escape from rush. huh..... *puts on thinking cap*......
