What do you mean by FBs? i can only think of fishing boats. Yep, those fishing boats sure keep the enemy at bay

Don't do DM, but on RM towers and archers take care of Tool and Bronze rushes by the CP. Composite Bowmen are my favourites. For those with RoR, Slingers, if you can make them, work well in the early stages and they're cheap.

Are we talking about AoK or AoE/RoR?

Well, sticking to AoE only, it's still composite bowmen if the civ has them. Otherwise short and broadswordsmen with as many upgrades as possible make good all-rounders.

I wonder if that's what the queen meant... compies and swordsmen are rather slow and it takes some time before you get them. so you need an army of them alll over the place to be any use. And she meant something to use before she got that.
I can only think of upgraded axemen in early Bronze if you can't get cavs - not exactly the start of the game, to be sure. Personally, I think cavs are weak against archer rushes.

I'm talking about units that has saved your town many a time, that you made in a minute, when your enemy sends over a ST or two.
Me? I stink when it comes to compies; mine end up being pounded into the ground by ST's when i look away for a minute to make another farm or something.
