Just a humorous question (for a change).

When you click on those villies what are they saying anyway? Grogan? Donahue? Pardon?

Anybody know if these utterings are anything more than just arbitrary grunts?

Well, some say "erectus"<laughing heard in background from the more immature members>, which probably came from "homo erectus", the first man to walk upright.

I think i read somewhere that the designers used names of real people they knew, but mixed up the letter to create non-sense words.

If you ask me the fishing boats say "Jimmy!" when they are made (Or maybe I want to think they say my name?)

at 1st when i started playing aoe... i thought that when you click on a farm, people clap and cheer for you..... later with careful listening i found out it was chicken noises..... although its weird..... now when i click on a farm i hear a goat, not what i used to hear.... can anyone explain that?

btw.. go to your aoe directory, and help subdirectory , you will find a sound called 5028.wav .... i have never heard this sound in the game, where is it from?

there was also another sound..... a villager saying something weird...... something that started with "o" but i cant find the sound any more.... also weird....

They all sound funny, sometimes they get on my nerves worse than the music, speaking of which, does anyone know why, in the game it only plays 1/2 of the midis in the sound folder,

is it because I have minimal install(why did it copy all of them to my computer?)

Or, I have the gold edision, with both AOE and AOE RoR.

Or, since I have minimal install it plays off the CD, but why then did it copy those midis to my computer.

Anyone know?
THANKS

caesar constantine : turn off music, music is distracting, and causes cpu lag..... i remember that ever since i turned it off a long time ago, it has helped me concentrate on micromanagement better....

I know, sometimes the sound on my computer turns off by itself,I'm not sure why, I am thankful for this when I play AoE

Oh! and about the farms, the farms on AoK make goat or cow sounds (I can't remember) then chicken sounds, maybe this is where the chicken sounds come in at.

Of course, since the program accesses the sounds by file name, you could always go in and record your own weird noises!

Custom grogans! Now when a vil dies at the hands of the enemy he can say: "Up your igrotie with a donahee!"

I don't know about you guys, but I think "pompous" comes through pretty clearly, but it does sound somewhat latin. I think I heard "danahib" used to mean something like "mister" by egyptian or arabic characters on TV, too. So my guess would go to ancient languages, which seems appropriate for an ancient warfare RTS.

I think they are saying 'abadacus'.

Dave, um, that doesn't sound like any pig latin I've ever heard.

The Phoenix: That's the Western dialect of Pig Latin. Apparently, the Occidental and Indian dialects bifurcated back in the 3rd century AD. You probably didn't recognize it because the Sanskrit element was missing.
