Scarab, I hope this is ok, but I thought it would be best to have a new thread for tourney results.

Please don't post any messages here except tourney results. Oh, and the occassional message sending this thread to the top. Thank you.

Hey borgboy12, nice signature! Although it took a while to load it and I have a cable modem so I'd hate to try to load it with a regular modem but it looks real cool!

Congratulations to Old men, as the saying goes "to the victor go the spoils", but I read your post it looks like a well fought battle so to the Vampires I give a handshake, well done.

I was not complaining, if I was you would know it I'm much more obvious than that so relax, I'd just say you suck if I was complaining ok? I was merely stating what I observed. I do like it BTW.

Borg:

"And for those who don't have Internet Explorer...Get it, Netscape (or whatever your using) sucks! j/k"

I have Internet Explorer, but I don't use it because it's more buggy than netscape as well as having millions of security holes. It's really bad when any joe schmoe website can read or modify the contents of your hard drive just because the browser has security holes... Microsoft has done a good job of closing these holes as they arise, but a real hacker who's figured out a hole wouldn't tell Microsoft about it and use it for their own dark purposes... Netscape has NEVER had these problems and probably never will... Tying your browser into the OS is a dumb move IMO because there will always exist security holes... That and the fact that performance-wise netscape works about twice as fast as IE on my system, sucks less of my memory, crashes less, provides a much better security mechanism, and has a better look and feel (at least in my opinion). Oh and the Microsoft IE JVM is *****(I haven't downloaded IE 5 yet but I really doubt it's that much different).

BTW best browser is still far and away lynx. *reminiscence of text based browsers*

OK that had nothing to do with tournament results.... back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Sorry, but I have to comment on this. First of all, IE is NOT more buggy than Netscape. In tests run by Windows Magazine, it was shown that IE was better than both Netscape AND Opera. IE loads pages faster too. OK, and as for examples. First of all, Microsoft patches most IE bugs it comes across. Have you heard of the complex javascript but in Netscape? Basically, if you're using netscape, you can't put complex JavaScript in tables, unless you use a complicated document.write routine to fool the browser into thinking it isn't a table. No problem with that in IE. This bug has been around since the early days of Javascript. It's literally a fossil. Another bug in Netscape: if there's an unpaired font tag in a table cell, netscape crashes and burns. Both Opera and IE just give error messages. That bug has been around for quite a while too. Face it, Netscape isn't better than IE, it's just that people hold Microsoft to a higher standard, and if there's even a single bug in any Microsoft software, it'll be touted as filled with bugs.

BTW, this is for IE5, which WinMag put in their winlist, incidentally. They also put Outlook Express in the winlist, replacing Eudora, just to show you that Microsoft's software is good, people just LOVE to hate them. Please don't flame me on this thread, BTW. IF you have antimicrosoft rants, start a new thread on VVV.

Taion can think up of a number of uncomplimentary names for Netscape.

This thread can be posted on this forum! Why? Because it is about ROR and if you have a problem with that then go ***** yourself. I'm sick of all your damn bull ***** about how this and that should go on the VVV forum, this is a toruney on the game so it can be on this message board. Oh, and if we didn't post messages off the topic on this message board life would be dull. We wouldn't get to know people or post our opinions. And don't say this bull***** about how I should ready what we've written in the past, it's just gonna get me angry and make me wanna go to my friends house and smoke fucken pot. So quit fucken bothereing me you damn lammer!

Well, I WAS going to say something to Redbeard, but I must thank the eloquent, charming Reeces for summing it up so colorfully. Fanatic_Reeces, ne MA_Reeces, this forum was certainly a dull little affair until you showed up. Now it's more of the lively, intelligent debate that one might expect to find in, say, professional wrestling.

Redbeard, yer little complaint IS getting a bit tiresome, since it is not for you to decide who should post what and where; it's a busy little mess here, sure enough. But it is OUR mess (yours, too). However, someone should apologize to you for that last outburst, and since we know our man Reeces lacks the humility (and tact), allow me.

At least he showed you what it would take for you to "be an ass." The bar has been lowered.

"In tests run by Windows Magazine, it was shown that IE was better than both Netscape AND Opera."

"There are liars, damn liars, and statisticians." - Mark Twain

*sarcasm*
Wow a publication funded in part by Microsoft saying that Microsoft is better than everyone else... what a HUGE surprise that comes as to me... I mean you can bet that they rigorously tested everything... oh and they only tested things to see what would break their browser and not to break the other browsers.
*end sarcasm*

Actually I don't have a problem with Microsoft products, they do what they advertise for the most part. I'd use IE if Netscape weren't around. Just because Netscape fails to run proprietary IE tags like MARQUEE doesn't prove anything... if everything had to be run through an HTML validation service (like any self respecting website creator should) then all of the bugs except for the javascript bug that you described won't be there.... Seeing as how Netscape invented javascript I could argue that anything which crashes their javascript engine is non-compliant I'll agree that their javascript engine is not the best... but why use javascript at all????!!! I personally despise it... I disable it in both browsers unless it's absolutely necessary that I have it on (stupid zone) and it accomplishes nothing worthwhile (seriously, give it some thought, is it really that important that webmasters can pop up annoying windows on our screen ala geocities?? It's just annoying as heck...)

As for their performance claim, I wonder if they got their results the same way as apple got their results for the imac... (ie let's not do level playing fields to make ourselves look good) *sarcasm* I mean I'd bet that IE5 running on a Quad P3 550 on NT with 2 gigs of RAM and netscape running on a 386 with 4 megs of ram (minimum 95 requirements) is a reasonable way to compare things *end sarcasm* On a less sarcastic note, I could probably skew the results towards netscape by testing a more compliant less javascript driven page. If I wanted to skew the results towards IE, I'd just make a huge table because netscape has trouble handling large tables (> 1000 elements, not that you see tables that big often).

In any event, when was the last time you heard of someone finding a hole in Netscape that allowed people to delete all the files on your hard drive (for IE last I heard of a bug like this was about a week after IE5 was released... just a few months ago).

I'm not bashing Microsoft products and I'm not holding them to a higher standard... It's been my experience that Netscape is a better product, gets better performance on every machine on which I've compared the performance, and crashes less on every machine that I've had the pleasure of using IE on (upwards of 25). As far as user interfaces go, I feel that Netscape's is cleaner, but that's a matter of aesthetics. When mozilla comes out with it's customizable XML stylesheet layout then I'll be willing to say that Netscape has one upped IE in the interface department.

In conclusion, I've made a comparison and decided to use what I feel is a superior product. If you took away the names and the companies I'd still make the same browser decision simply based on what works best in my experience. Since javascript is a total waste of my time and is disabled and I almost never see tables of 10,000 elements, I'm not too worried about Netscape's shortcomings. Ugh this was longer than I expected... I'll stop on this subject now... No more replying to this thread regarding this subject for me Flames may be directed to your recycle bin (or /dev/null as necessary).

I would say no comment but I do have the slightest comment. Maybe the reason IE has been found to have more "holes" in it then netscape is because MS is a more targeted company and is a more profitable target (for hackers). Logic no?

And back to the subject. I hear that game 1 of I forgot the team names was played and team I forgot this name won the first game and on the second game too many people dopped so they will reschedule it.

And for those who don't have Internet Explorer...Get it, Netscape (or whatever your using) sucks! j/k But really please get it! My new site will be IE only. You can get it here

I would like to thank everyone who came to my defense on this thread and the tourney chart thread. I had not had time to respond until now, but I do have a few points:

1) Barbarosa, since when were you the moderator of this forum, or in any way in charge of what goes on at HGS? I don't see the cherub or angel tag in front of your name. When it comes to the matter of appropriate material on this forum, I will defer to the moderator and his esteemed colleages for their opinion on the matter.

2) It is interesting that you have targeted tournament related thread that I have created, but did not bother to express your feelings regarding others. Is my tourney chart inappropriate for this forum, while Jake's is ok? Is my "Post your results here" thread invalid, while the dozen or so "team x vs team y" threads is just hunky dory with you?

You know, I agree that the HGS might be in need of some restructuring, but until that time, posting anything on VVV is useless. I never read it. I get the feeling that no one else does either.

Oh yes, and how can you be critisizing IE5 if you've never even tried it?
