I was just curious. So many of you have different signatures with different quotes, so for all you who dont have a quote in your signature (like me) what is your favorite quote?

Mine would probably have to be:
"I believe that there comes a time in every man's life where an event of such importance occurs that it literally splits time itself; into everything that happened before this and everything that will happen after this"

I dont know who said this, but one of my teachers had this quote up in like 5th grade and it really stuck with me.

Not necessarily my favorite, but a good quote no the less:

"Hector, you deemed that you should come off scatheless when you were spoiling Patroclus, and recked not of myself who was not with him. Fool that you were: for I, his comrade, mightier far than he, was still left behind him at the ships, and now I have laid you low. The Achaeans shall give him all due funeral rites, while dogs and vultures shall work their will upon yourself."

You can substitute "Phil" for Hector and APC for "Achaeans". (hehe) good game last night, Canadians. Next time the random civ gods won't shaft me with Greek while they give you Assy, Minoan,.. =). Next time.

Oh, so many fine quotes... Some I can remember right now:

"We shall never surrender." Winston Churchill

"Never in history of mankind so many due so much to so few." W. Churchill, but I'm not quite sure of the quote.

"Actually, my dear, I don't give a damn." ...gone with the wind

"Go ahead. Make my day." Dirty Harry

"Woe to you on earth and sea, for the Devil sent the Beast with wrath" Revelations

"My son, ask for thyself another kingdom, as the one I left is too small for thy." Alexander the Great's father speaking to him.

Maybe I'll remember some more later.

May your weapons be sharp and your ping be green

Someone 'UnKnown' poster over at GX just used this quote:

"If you have to tell people that you're the best......then you're not"

How about:

"I'm not the pheasant plucker, I'm the pheasant plucker's son. I'm only plucking pheasants 'til the pheasant plucking's done" (try saying that when you're drunk!!!)

During the US Civil War, a Confederate raider named JS Mosby struck the town of Fairfax, Virginia one night. He captured many supply wagons, mules and a Union general officer. Upon being informed of the event, Abraham Lincoln said -
Oh, what a tragedy! Of course, I can always make another General, but those mules are expensive!

"Anne, honey, I think I've got something for that rash on your neck."

King Henry VIII to wife, Anne Boleyn, May 19, 1536.

Following the movie, pop culture theme:

John Wayne commenting on a young, beautiful Jane Fonda (or was it Anne Margaret? arggg, my memory is going)

"Hell, I've got saddles older than her!"

Yeah, but....

Seriously, I like this one:

"L'homme est un loup parmis les hommes" meaning that "every single man is a wolf amongs mankind"... For me it represent the sad thruth that were killing each others and if ever mankind dies, it's gonna be because of mankind itself.

The second quote from Winston Churchill (in Jaheed's post) was about World War II. I'm pretty sure it was about a specific battle, and I'd put my money on the Battle of Britain, maybe D-day. Of course, it could be the whole war.

Here's one, and favorite of John F. Kennedy.
"But the Lord keepeth the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." -Psalms (I'm not sure which one.)

SCARAB-I recognize that Pheasant one. We used that in Theatre to loosen up our tongues before we went onstage.
It went a bit differently tho: I am a mother pheasant plucker. I pluck mother pheasants. I am a very pleasant mother pheasant plucker.
Also: I slit a sheet, a sheet I slit. Upon the slitted sheet I sit.
HA! Try that one!

Here's a good quote,IMHO:
Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
-John Wesley, "Rules of Conduct"
And another:
Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. -Shakespeare

And of course, anything from "Tombstone"

O quam te memorem, virgo?
O dea certe.
{By what name should I call thee, maiden? O goddess, surely.}

Well, I really happen to like this one:

"I'm no bloody hero!" -Mat Cauthon, The Wheel of Time

"Death is light as a feather, duty is heavy as a mountain." -Lan, The Wheel of Time

I have a few...

'My hovercraft is full of eels!' a (rather obscure) Monty Python line

The next is actually a mini-dialogue..
'Apparently the lights had gone.'
'So had the stairs'
'But you did find it, didn't you?'
'Yes, stuck in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard''.
(I paraphrased, I'm too lazy to run upstairs and get the book *g*)-- a quote from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galazy (all 5 books are worth reading, full of great quotes)

I don't know where this quote is from, I read it on a list of one-liners:
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet

That's all I can think of for now *g*

a little man who wasn't there,
he wasn't there again today,
oh how I wish he'd go away."

Sources are unknown for these:

On the other hand, the early worm gets eaten...

This is interesting, too, IMHO.

In the jungle, a gazelle awakens
He must run faster than the fastest lion
or he will get eaten

In the jungle, a lion awakens
he knows he must run faster than the slowest gazelle
or he will go hungry

The lesson here is, whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up, you'd better be running

"The best laid plans of mice and men, aft gang a'gley!"

Robert Brown

This is certainly an appropriate quote to describe my RoR games. (I tried to remember this as best I could. If anyone knows if I made an error, please correct me.)

BTW, my sig has nothing to do with pillaging and fighting. It has everything to do with skiing tne bumps!!!

Turn'em and Burn'em!

i got a couple

[i] a person is smart , people are dumb rambuntus and violent and you know that

there is no such thing as evil, when two nations are fighting against each other one side thinks the enemy is evil but on the other side they think the same thing about them, so who is and who isnt evil is more of a personal opinion on anybodys side. maybe the thought of evil is just a fraud by the dark gods to fill their lust for bloodshed?you know this kind of thing has always happend, would the world even exist if there was no unexisting evil? the only reason to fight is to live, gotta fight to love gotta struggle for survival. any questions?

My favorite quote in ROR came from a sim city persian ally while a fought a losing battle in a 3 vs 1 at sea. I asked for help and he said,"Don't worry, it will be all over when I iron and make AE's" ... well a few minutes later I responded, " I didn't know egypt got AE's".. the egyptian next to him converted a jungle full of AE and it was too funny to watch ... neilkaz...

AE's are armored elephants !

One I occasionally use in my email sigs. Can't say it's my favorite, but its close...

There's so much comedy on television. Does that cause comedy in the streets?
