I was just curious. So many of you have different signatures with different quotes, so for all you who dont have a quote in your signature (like me) what is your favorite quote?

Mine would probably have to be:
"I believe that there comes a time in every man's life where an event of such importance occurs that it literally splits time itself; into everything that happened before this and everything that will happen after this"

I dont know who said this, but one of my teachers had this quote up in like 5th grade and it really stuck with me.

hmm.. either

1) Nil Illegetimus Carberundum this is a nice little bit of badly spelt and most likely mis-pronounced Latin. Anyone know what it says?

2)Winners never Quit, And Quiters never win,
But if you never quit and never win, you are a idiot
I don't know where I first heard this, but it's words to live by. If you have seen my posts in the AoK forum, (and there not many) this is my sig there.

Your voice crashes like a wave against the violence.

I'v got about 5, all equal. I'll post these two first (I don't know the author of the first one; the second is by Clint Eastwood, or his scriptwriter), and only put up the others if no one else claims them:

There are no facts about the future.

My all time favourite, and the reason I don't post more often is:

"It is better to have everyone believe you an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

(i was paraphrazing there, but you get the drift...not sure who said it)

My favorite quote?

quote:

Geez you friggin' idiot! It's accelerate then merge! Not the other way around.

Geesh, there are too many. Here are just the first three that came to mind.

"That government is best which governs least"
-Henry David Thoreau

"To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."

Sheesh... i got way to many qoutes ... here are some of them:

"I do what i want
I do what i feel like
I am not a trendy as*hole" - The Offspring

"People don't read anymore, they watch T.V. The news is often their only source of non-fiction. We must remember that the news itself is only entertainment." - Bad Religion

"Don't tell me about the answer
'cause then another one will come along soon
I don't believe you have the answer
I've got ideas too
but if you've got enough naivete
and you've got conviction
the the answer is perfect for you" - Bad Religion

"Kill one man and you are a murderer,
Kill millions and you are a conquerer,
Kill all and you are God." - I don't know...

This is one that i made up but copied Sam DeathWalker in a way :

The only reason Maimin Matty has been winning all these tourneys is because he was lucky, lucky he wasn't playing me.

Also Thunder i like your quote too it was by Abe Lincoln.. and i think it went like this:

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to speak out and remove all doubt."

Ohh and 1 more:

For every peon you kill, there will be 10 more.

I had more but i forgot them... arghhh ..

Quotes, quotes... there are so much good ones, I'll try to mention just some of the ones I like, OK?

"To be or not to be, that's the question." - Hamlet, Hamlet
I love this phrase, but I don't understand its meaning, even though I read the whole Hamlet book! What's that supposed to mean?

"Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid. People are stupid: given proper motivation, anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true." Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, Wizard's First Rule
Well, what can I say? It's my favorite book!

"God created men equal. Colt has made them different."
I'm not sure it's exactly like this, but I like it anyway.

"And ye harm none, do what ye will."
One of the Wiccan 'laws', this phrase's a way of life by itself. OK, I don't want to discuss religion, it's just a quote, alright?

And, of course, one of the best quotes ever:
"Oh no! They killed Kenny! You bastards!"

I reread Sting's quote and found it quite interesting. While I have not experienced all of life (I am still alive after all), I have experienced more than 29 years of it. In my life anyway, there has not been a single event of such importance, but rather there have been several events that mark significant changes in my life. Getting married, graduating from college, and the birth of my daughter are all events that are easily defined as a "before and after" event.

I imagine there are some people to which an event of this type has occurred. Winning a PowerBall lottery would probably qualify. (Although I don't play so the chances of that happening are nil.) Crippling accidents would also qualify. People who experience the horrors of war are often changed for life... that would qualify too.

But to say that every man will experience a single event of such importance seems incorrect. While waiting for that Event to occur, you may be missing out on all the smaller, but no less important events in your life.

Is there anyone here who has had a single life-altering event like the one described in Sting's quote? (Incidentally Sting, this is in no way intended as a flame. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was not true in my own life and I thought some discussion about it might be interesting.)

Along the lines of my comments above, two of my favorite quotes are:

"Life is in the little things."

and

"Men are that they might have joy."

Heres a few i heard off of movies

1) "When you kill a man out of passion its called murder
But to kill a man in the heat of battle it's called heroic" - Waynes World

2) "i'm your huckleberry" - Tombstone: Val Kilmer (doc holiday)

3) "If it looks good, you'll see it
If it sounds good, you'll hear it
If its market right, you'll buy it
But....if it's real
You'll feel it"
- Kid Rock

Capablanca:
Hamlet's soliloquy (sp?) beginning, "To be, or not to be?" is in simplest terms the ramblings of a guy trying to decide whether or not he should kill himself, as in, "to live or to die?" Pretty Deep Stuff.

Thank you, disciplejim, I had already understood that suicide part - it becomes pretty clear when he says things like "and by a sleep to say we end the heart-ache and the thousand natural shocksthat flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wish'd." But I couldn't find out what the 'to be' thing had to do with it. Once again, tnx a lot!

Talking about Hamlet, there's another of my favorite quotes in it: it's when Rosencrantz says to Hamlet "I understand you not, my lord." and then Hamlet gives an awesome reply: "I am glad of it. A knavish speech sleeps in a foolish ear."

OK, enough Shakespeare for now, or else I'll start to recite all the advice Polonius gave to Laertes!

Some quotes, aka 'definitions' from the Cynic's Dictionary =D

LOOTING: A public shopping spree generously sponsored by local merchants in the wake of a riot.

CPR: An emergency exercise that helps concerned onlookers feel useful while the victim expires.

MUGGER: A benevolent citizen of the streets who frequently spares the lives of total strangers in exchange for any cash and valuables in their possession.

I had a lot of cool quotes as my icq 'away' messages but lost them all when icq died

This is a quote that happens to apply to RoR and Life:

"If in each matter that comes before us you look to all possible chances, never you achieve anything. Far better is it to have a stout heart always, and suffer ones share of evils, than to be ever fearing what may happen, and never incur a mischance....Success for the most part attends those who act boldly. not those who weigh everthing and are slack to venture"
