I deleted my original writings because I don't like non-strategy threads here, they should be in VVV.

I listen to laid back music:
Red Hot Chilli peppers- Under the bridge

Whats not to love about this song? its mellow...

Pink Floyd- Dark side of the moon

even mellower

But yeah..Marlyin Mansion sucks

Hi Breydel

I have been listening to more classical music lately. I like gentle classics particularly what I would describe as flowing instrumentals producing a calm reflective mood. Barber's Adagio for Strings is a popular one.

Classical music is hard for me to shop for. There needs to be a conversion chart that says, "If you like Barber's Adagio for Strings you will also like A, B, & C." Or "If you like Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 5 you'll like the following: XXXXX"

I also like James Taylor, Croche, some Foggelberg (sp?), and occasionally the Carpenters, and John Denver's early stuff before he thought he was "hip" , and other such music.

I also listen to background music like liturgical corals, environment sounds backed by COMPLIMENTARY music---not something that over-powers it, and Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" series.....a throw-back live radio variety show, heavy on story telling and folk music.

I used to listen to rock music circa mid 60's through very early 80's, but lost interest after that. Country music is ok sometimes, but the average country song and artist is to predictable for me, rock is too for that matter. Some artists in both country and rock will step out beyond the mundane.

I listen to Enya and only Enya. Some songs of hers that I like are Orinoco Flow, Caribean Blue, Anywhere Is, Only If, and a bunch more.

"Under the bridge" by the Chili Peppers,
"My Favorite Game" by The Cardigans,
Anything at all by The Tea Party,
The Tragicly Hip,
Fat Boy Slim,
Bear Jr,
and a little bit of Limp Bizkit and Korn....

just my $.02

Your words comfort me in cold seasons.
Your smile wells up and drowns me in your reason.
Your sculpted lips speak to me in silence.
Your voice crashes like a wave against the violence.

Mostly local bands for me. I believe its 10 times more fun to watch a band at your local bar/nightclub (many are 18+). So most of my musical tastes are influenced by bands around Grand Rapids, Michigan, or those who stop in. I've met quite as few, as they watch other bands play.

Fat Amy (from lansing, my favorite).

The Verve Pipe (also lansing)

Papa Vegas (grand rapids, on RCA records with a national single and I've talked to people who have seen the CD in places such as Target in San Jose).

19 Wheels - (lansing) originally country western, now "midwest rock." or Aware Rock. (aware records is from chicago, a compilation that discovers and promotes bands, many make it national (TVP, better than ezra, matchbox 20, hootie, papa vegas, many more).

Kid Rock - Detroit, gotta love him!

And another local, Jewel. She went to school and played in coffee shops near Interlochen MI.

other national acts:

better than ezra, harvey danger.
Far, Incubus I have seen live in the same night. (metal).

and I like electronic. Propellerheads, Chemical Brothers, and as many compilation CDs as I get my hands on get regular "spin" in my car.

I listen to jazz too, Herbie Hancock taking top honors.

I must say, I love music. I love seeing live music as often as I can. I'll listen to anything, even Motown. Just not boy bands or country/western.

as for Garrison Keillor, I am a northern Scandinavian Lutheran. His humor is too damn much! I love it! I've seen him twice do his show from Interlochen MI. His music, however, not my style.

Korn, Bush (early stuff), Limp Bizkit, White Zombie, Rob Zombie, Busta Rhymes, Metallica, Deftones, actually I do like some of Manson's songs...HE is a bit stupid though...
I play guitar and used to play in a band so any heavy or rhythmic music can get me going...Oh yeah, Offspring, too I am sure their are a few 100 I am leaving off...311 also!

YAH!!! Jehu listens to classical too. I listen to classical, ALL OLDIES, and jazz. FYI, the Beatles are and will forevermore be the greatest rock and roll band ever and Elvis is THE KING. I guess, I'm quite out of the ordinary, but I would like to think all of what I listen to is civilized.

Uhh, who classifies Marylin Manson as music?
posted 05-16-99 11:12 PM ET (US)     10 / 67
Errr....I for one does not like the Metallica wanna be kind of music. I prefer easy listening and also country music. Music like Shania Twain, Deana Carter etc..
Also I like New Age, like Erasure, A-Ha and Dep Mode (their old ones). for Mariyln Manson....yuck!!!!!

I'm a electonica/techno fan. Fat Boy Slim, BT, Underworld, Delerium, Crystal Method, and lots more. I also love depeche mode, new order, nine inch nails.

Most stuff on the radio or mtv just doesn't do it for me anymore. I just find it all kind of boring....

Another music thread! Good God! Great Balls o' Fire!

I was brought up in a cross-mix of my oldest brother's Zeppelin/Black Sabbath, dad's Mama's & the Papas/Peter, Paul & Mary & mom's Haydn & Mozart (& SHOW TUNES! YEAH!) I can recall listening to Kasey Kasem's Top 40 countdown, & WMET (Chicago's) annual Top 100 (the top 10 were always long snooze-fests like Clapton's "Cocaine," some Allman Bros. boozejam, Traffic's "the Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" (what the HELL was THAT song about, anyway?), and the perpetual Numero Uno, Stairway to Boredom.

How many other kids have a memory like this? Yer dad, in his underwear, in a lotus position, under the piano, eyes closed, mouth open, "groovin'" to Jose Feliciano's version of "Light My Fire"?

Me? Hell, I love what is now referred to as "Klassic Rok," but my heart still belongs to the music of my college Daze - Joy Division, early- to mid-Cure, some Siouxsie, Sisters of Mercy, the Church, the Buzzcocks, Wire, the Fall, the Chameleons, and my beloved Throwing Muses.

Catherine Wheel gets better w/ every album (oops, CD, sorry), and I miss the previous singer in Voivod (why the hell did they return to Speed Metal? ugh.) The Beatles still are God (well, maybe not Paul so much).

I said it before, & I'll say it again- best Song on the Best Album in the Armagedn Audio Library... Pink Floyd's Echoes/Meddle.

* * *

Always wondered why you were so "laid back." Now I know.

* * *

Oh, and Marilyn Manson can bite me... then again, he might like it.

To Wolfpack:
'Beatles were biggest band ever': ever heard of an album entitled 'Pet Sounds'? (this is not for the under 30y olds - or maybe under 50???)

To Jehu:
Isn't it funny those kids think listening to classical music is 'cool'?

Do any of you listen to lounge music?
How about "Cumbustible Edision"? What about
SAMBA, like "Walter Wanderly" or
"Ella"? I think you should listen to what
ever makes you feel like good. If watching some guy run around wearing a garden hose
looking like a zombie and talking about beutifull people makes you feel like a better
person then so be it.

I hope I did not insult anyone out there with

Rush is my favorite band. I also listen to other bands and Metallica aswell. However, Rush isn't your typical band and most of their songs sound different from the others and their lyrics are very deep. :-)

Guess I should just say the music I listen to:

I'm a Metallica freak, big time. I have all their albums and can play all their songs on my guitar

I'm also a BIG Ozzy and Sabbath fan

I ONLY play Heavy Metal on my guitar and try to keep my listening to Heavy Metal

Well, rock on.
