Age of Empires Heaven's Age Toons Contest!


We haven't had any Age Toons in a long, long while. What better way to celebrate the upcoming release of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition with a nice contest, including real prizes for the winners? If you don't know what Age Toons are, they are basically AoE-themed jokes in the form of an image. Here's an example:



And you can find much more of them in our Age Toons Gallery.

We want YOU to create the most original and funniest Age Toon! And, since Meme's are basically (almost... lol) the same thing, we will allow them as well!

The contest starts today September 4th, 2017, and ENDS September 30, 2017 at 11:59 PM CEST.

Contest Rules


Follow these rules exactly or you will not be eligible for entering.

1. First of all, you need to sign up to our forums if you haven't already done so (it's free!). Anyone can enter as long as you are a forum member of Heavengames.

2. Post your custom created Age Toon/Age Meme image in this same topic.

3. Make us laugh! Make your Age Toon/Age Meme as funny as it can be! We won't judge your artistic skills, but make sure your image is original, creative, and of decent quality and any text clearly readable, and does not violate the CoC.

VERY IMPORTANT:


- Images may not be smaller than 100x100 pixels, and not exceed 1000x1000 pixels in size. Anything in between will be accepted as a valid entry.

- For image filetypes, the following are allowed: .jpg, .gif, and .png. Any other filetypes will not be accepted as a valid entry, so make sure you choose one of either three mentioned.

- Animated images are allowed.

- Your entry MUST be Age 1 themed. That means you can only use images, objects, materials or screenshots from the original Age of Empires/The Rise of Rome, OR Age of Empires Definitive Edition as the base for your Age Toon or Age Meme. You ARE allowed to use any other objects from other games however, be it Age 2 or Rise of Nations, Doom, Sega, Nintendo, whatever, as long as it's main theme is Age of Empires!

- Use a free image sharing host to upload your image, or here (free without registration), or upload it to your own server (if you have one), then post it here in this same topic using the IMG tags and the link to your Age Toon/Age Meme between them, or use the markup menu and select . Alternatively, you can post a link to your image, just make sure you put ENTRY: before the link.

- You can enter only ONCE. You are free to make edits to your Age Toon/Age Meme until the deadline which is September 30, 2017 at 11:59 PM CEST. If you edit your image after that we will NOT count it as an entry.

- Please, don't use/steal other people's toons/memes/entries. You will be automatically disqualified.

- The contest starts today September 4th, 2017, and ENDS September 30, 2017 at 11:59 PM CEST. That gives you little less than a month to make your entry. Why not longer? Well, we want to make sure you get your prize before the 19th of October, the release date of AoE: Definitive Edition, in case you are selected as a winner - so you can proudly wear the DE T-Shirt that day!

- Entries will be judged by our Staff members PhatFish, Fruktfisk and Suppiluliuma, based on 2 categories: Originality, and Most Funny. Both will count for the final verdict. The results will be announced shortly after the contest is over. We will add every valid submission to our Age Toons Gallery.

Some tips:


- Microsoft Paint is probably the easiest way to make an Age Toon. However image editing programs as Photoshop (not free) or Gimp (free) can give better results depending on what you have in mind.

- Use CTRL + F12 to take an in-game screenshot. It will be saved in your default AoE directory as AoE0001.bmp, which is usually something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires\

- You can use Turtle Pack to extract some individual objects from the game's graphical database (.drs). You can convert them to .bmp files which can be read by any image editing software.

- Alternatively you simply cut any (AoE) object you want after taking a printscreen (fn+prtsc) full screenshot of your entire desktop.

I dont come here very often, but is it really necessary a full page of rules for a meme contest? This drives people away...let the market regulate itself.

Sorry marecelomoura, but free market and savage capitalism put Trump as prez. We have to learn from the mistakes of others.

The rules are quite simple, and we have real prizes. So no biggie there!

Ok. I will not discuss that, I just wanted to give an outside point of view. But will be surprised if there are more than 5 entries, people don't like to read that much nowadays...unfortunately

Better to answer any related questions one could have, and set simple rules so the playfield is pretty much even and things are clear to anyone from the get-go. If you can't be bothered to read then don't enter... this place isn't super active in any case. You should be happy we even have a contest!

Phatfish, sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. My intention was never to enter the contest (I wish I had time for that), instead, I entered the link to laugh a bit with the entries.

Then, I saw that the week long contest had up to now only 1 entry (which is rated 6 out of 10 to me ). This is why I wrote me first message. In my view you should just let people send stuff, funny stuff. If it is 600x600, 350x1000 or he lives in Mars (who in the world wouldn't have a valid shipping address?) doesn't matter, the idea is to be funny and entertain the public of the site. If it is crap, let it be, it is funny sometimes too (in essence, memes are crap stuff by definition..hahaha).

Restricting it, means less views, less views will be less traffic for the site...

Don't take it as bad criticism, Im a big fan of the site and how it managed to keep alive with so little people around. I am a huge critic of the Definite Edition as well, not because I don't like it, but because I want it to succeed and I hope it will (as long as they change that horrible main menu background and put something similar to the original and dont make it two separate games old/new inside the same one)

I will be around, I still want to see the memes.

I agree on some points and I've changed the rules slightly. Accepted max image size is now 1000x1000 pixels. Removed the contacting part which indeed is obvious. The theme will remain the same, this place is not AoK or Mars Heaven, this is AoEH!

On Definitive Edition, the main menu background might change. It does remind me of AoEO a bit. Im ok with it. And it is confirmed DE will have two modes (normal DE and classic), that won't be changed. I actually like this because some might prefer one or the other. Now you can choose between the best of both worlds.
