No, a new Heaven has not opened (although it is about time for a new official one), but the Age of Renders has arrived to AoEH! As you might have read in the previous news posts, official renders have been found which are used in Age of Empires. Not only 3D studio max files, but so called .flc (animation) files of AoE buildings have also been uncovered, and I have converted them to .gif files so you can see them properly. Unfortunately there are no units, but there are loads and loads of new buildings which have never seen the light of day! Guess what? With this update we now have pretty much every single building render ever created for Age of Empires. And did you know we host the largest amount of game development material of any Heaven?

There are also new Dawn of Man (one of the earliest AoE prototypes) screenshots, interfaces, buttons and renders. I uploaded some new cutscenes and a few other assets as well. You can even view the earliest logo's from Ensemble Studios. It's safe to say that this is the biggest Beta-related update since all of the previously gathered development materials have been moved from my former website to AoEH.

Render render on the wall, which is the prettiest render of them all? An early Babylonian/Middle Eastern Guard Tower

Enjoy, AoE fans

Indeed I love all the "new" Town Centers, especially the Greek single gazebo one:

Also did you guys notice the art changes between similar buildings? This is especially visible in the Egyptian building renders (look at the hieroglyphs). It's not surprising Egy also has the most buildings created, after all it was the first civ in the game.

And for those who didn't notice yet, here's a new cutscene that pre-dates RoR by over a year:

That was eventually used as the RoR titlescreen background (albeit from a different angle).

These are candy to the eyes, especially the sharp bones in the ground in front of watch tower, which give more primal but also more natural look.

Yeah, that's like the tower of Babylon of horror. Another one I really like is Duncan's Stone Age TC. I mean look at that elephant skull!

Could one possibly replace some of these, if not all, with the ones in the actual AoE? Also, that desert terrain looks so much better; in fact, everything looks so much better. It gives you a more serious vibe, in contrast to the cartoon-esque look that AoE has :3
Also, sorry for my stupidity, but what's the Age of Renders? Maybe I completely lost the mark there. Sorry again :P

One of the main reasons for this stuff to look better and more "alive" to you is simply because it's not converted to 8 bit color (which the game engine uses). You can check some of the already available ROR renders, they look better too, but are actually the same as the in-game ones, just not converted and optimized for the game. Of course, that doesn't make any of these graphics less interesting.

I thought the game was 256 colours (i.e. 16-bit)?

Wow that's amazing!

Are those 3Ds max files also available for the public? They'd help me a lot with the new aoe buildings I'm doing.

is it possible to fix or fill in the missing pieces?!!? god a new patch could come out with these and change everything...

I mean if I can break into some of the source code then who knows what I could do... the Upatch is alone already amazing. much more could happen if I could get into the code even deeper...

regardless, is it possible to use these in a user made patch? possibly try to fill in missing pieces and such?

is it possible to make your own textures and such or edit things with theres they already have in the files?

@SeH_Mystical: You can easily add buildings to the game and you certainly don't need any "patch" or "code" at all. A simple graphics/data mod can do it, with AGE and Turtle Pack.

Too bad the textures are missing but otherwise the models are great and can be used to create new buildings. It's a pretty big deal for aoe1 mods.

Yes, it's true. Unfortunately I don't think we have many 3D designers here (apart from you) that could actually use them.

Still, it's a miracle we gained access to internal game materials, big thanks to everyone involved!

You forgot Sean and Duncan McKissick, and the rest of ES I think most of us know by now the source is Tony/you, so you both deserve most credit.

I've been messing around a bit with the 3D files but porting the lighting and camera from 3Ds max to blender hasn't been really successful so far.

If anyone knows where ES got their textures or has similar ones, I'd be certainly interested in them.

You don't need "real" textures for the tiny scale in game, look how Jan DC is doing it, simple materials give more fitting results.

Edit: Ah sorry, you meant for AoM.

XL you should do nothing with those models except use them as a reference. They have wayyy too many polygons to be used in aom.
