So does anyone think AoE 4 (if it ever happens) will pick up where AoE 3 left off? I actually wouldn't care for such a game, and I'm not so sure the name "Age of Empires" would fit with a World War/modern/etc. setting. A revisiting of ancient times would be nice, or any other older time period if it focuses on civilizations that haven't gotten much focus before.

I heard from multiple people it was very similar to aoe1, but I never played it though.

Sometimes people prefer classics with revamped looks. Look at the Fighting game genre. StreetFighter 4 and his stupid 2d mechanics resurrected the genre and brought it back to early 90's popularity levels.
