Dear All,
I remember a post by Omnivac where he said that if the game had been designed with a pop limit higher than 50 then the cost of upgrades would have been very different.
In the days of the boom we can build huge armies of super units in 30-40 minutes of game play.
This has set me thinking, if the game was designed to be played with a higher pop limit then wouldn't it follow that there would be more gold and stone on the map too? The only resource that increases significantly with the newer and larger maps is wood.
I think part of the reason I am so keen on SC is that they are effectively disposable units. I can grow a nice economy chop a lot of wood, farm some food , build 20 or so stables and pump SC like Choson pump legions, SC flooding. If there was more gold on the map then counter units such as HA and heps could be built in greater numbers and some of the impact of SC would be lost? Thoughts?

To drive your point home even further, on the new larger maps with water, there are a lot more fish to go along with the extra wood. I've also noticed a lot more dumbos. SC's are tough. All you really need for them is wood. ('cause of farms) All of the other "super units" are gold dependent.

Oh yeah, triremes can kick SC's all day long (no gold upps)

True Scarab, but peons (except fishing boats, but they don't gather wood) are on land which is where those woodies have to chop. I will always take land over water except for a island games of course.

Correct Capt, but you simply can't turn your back to the sea. All of the major (even minor) upgrades require food (usually a lot of it) If you control the sea, while not neglecting the land, you can rake in the food.

triremes still beat SC's, although they will rarely face each other (shallows?)
