Hi,

newbie here. Uhmm, is the FG attack a melee attack, piercing or what?

Thanks.

Hmm never knew that. Ran some scenerio tests, Fire Galleys actually do Melee damage, so that 14 armor on your centurian really does some good vs a fire galley anyhow. Also did you know, one fully upgraded minoan, hittite, or greek slinger (that means all the way up to tower shield, alchemy, seigecraft) will beat an unupgraded horse archer (admittedly with only 1 hp left, probably not quite because of range differential. if lag isn't bad the slinger won't touch the HA though) Still, 1 on 1 fight, no nobility and that little 25 pt 50 cost slinger beats that big 120 cost 60 pt Horse archer, because the slinger does 2 base damage + 2 damage to an archer + 3 damage for all the upgrades- so it does 7 damage to a horse archer minus the 2 per shot piercing armor HA'S got so 5 damage a shot, but the ha only does 2 damage per shot cause the slinger has 5! piercing armor. Which means the ha is dead in 12 shots, while the slinger takes 24 damage, with a grand total of 1! hp left. Still, shows the powers of massed slingers again ANY archer attack.-- Some good, cheap, at home defense I reckon

Thanks. Neato stuff about slingers, too. But I think you meant Roman, and not Hittite? Anyway, those poor gators w/o melee armor will be fried to crisps. Gator fries are popular with the villagers.

Actually, the only civs that get alchemy, seigecraft, and tower shield are Greek, Hittite, and Minoan, so they have the best slingers, Rome doesn't get alchemy

I'd have to argue against Hittite having "the best Slingers." I'm sure there's a reason I feel that way...

LOL you're right, not being a big hittite player I forgot that they don't get slingers- the scenario editor lets me use them anyhow-- Roman slingers aren't any better but since barracks are cheaper the rush is more powerful, with more slingers faster anyhow. Anyhow I generally play pretty much anybody except Palmy, Greek, and Hittite in RM, and I almost always play Choson in DM, also on occasion Carthage, but look at the other thread for more on that........
