Just got done playing three games tonight, and in all three, everyone wanted to play with the new bug. 2-3x3s and a 2x2. I got to use it just once, and then for only 4 farms. 300 measly wood. And I had about 4000 wood when I used it, and I didn't need the food, so no big deal. Only one player in this unofficial poll thought it made any difference at all.

I expressed my thoughts elsewhere that with all the upgrades, you need only 3 woodies to keep up with 36 farmers, and that the most hurt was Sumeria (considered second tier) and the most helped were Persia and Palmyra (considered either worst or next to worst tier) Kind of helps level things, but not very much if our games are any indication.

Anyone else have some real game experience they would care to share?

I have played 8 more games, and only one went long enough for the bug to be of any value at all, unless you routinely farm large scale in the late teens - early twenties (Which didn't happen.) The other game dragged on for almost 2-1/2 hours and was decided by boredom and/or D/C, not the farm bug. Saw neilkaz had a similar experience, 1 in 7.

Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller?

Maybe I just don't know how to exploit the value created by the wood bug. I played a 2v2 yesterday where I took random and got Greek.

It was highland, so there was a lot of farming going on. I was TC booming, and I never felt the need to use the farm bug, because I always had thousands more wood than I needed. With 60 villies running around I had resources for anything I wanted. I didn't even rebuild SPs for wood like I normally do.

About the only benefit I would have gained from the farm bug would have been the easing of micromanagement if I had hotkeyed all my farms with the one farmer. But I still had more food and wood than I knew what to do with. Greeks don't get SC of course, so that is a factor, since my units were food and gold intensive rather than food and wood.

My newbie parner was eliminated fairly early, and I still managed to hold of a phony and a hittite, and eventually won the game. My villager count was higher than theirs combined, due to my persistent back door attacks with hops/phal/cents. And helepolis shred eles and scythes. If your enemy doesn't eliminate you early, Greek definitely has a good iron.

The farm bug's effects are minimal. Use it or not, it wont make a difference in 96% of my games, and even that number may giving it too much credit. Most games of mine are decided in tool age, or early bronze anyway. It has been a long time since a had a huge drawn out Iron age battle.
