I just got a copy of ROR and installed it on my machine here at the office, something to do while i wait for my ride. In the third scenario on the first rise campaign, some of the computer towers have laser power to them. i'm playing single player. some are standard towers which i am destroying as i go, but the ones near the ocean are laser towers...i know there is a cheat for this but didn't think that the computer would use it when i haven't . as far as im concerned, cheating takes away from the game.

that scenario is fun. it takes a while to beat b/c of the mirror towers. what you do is you get a whole bunch of triremes (cheap, only wood), and attack ONE tower at a time. it requires a lot of micromanagement. you can see the ship that gets attacked. as soon as it is attacked, retreat it and send it back for repairs. it can be attacked only once, as it has 200 hps and the tower has 100 attack. it saves the ship, and since the tower needs time to fire the next shot, you've got time to pull it out, click on repair, and return to the scene of the battle just as the next one is being shot.

Historically, it is SOMEWHAT accurate. Granted there were not lasers in ancient times, but I remember that a common tactic used by, I think, the Greeks was to line people up on the shore with mirrors and focus the light of the sun on one area of a ships hull. The concentrated sunlight would set the ships on fire in the same way that a parabolic reflector or a magnifying glass can set wood on fire.
