Two days ago I started a 3vs3 random civ game in Quirinal. No big deal I can hear you say because I play 'em almost every day. But from all RC games I played (must be far over 100 by now) I have never seen the Random Civ God playing such a freaky act on me or on my opponents. Well, this is how he decided to divide civs amoung teams that evening:

TEAM 1 (FWH_Wolfpack, me and some other guy)
==> GREEK
==> GREEK
==> CARTHAGINIAN

TEAM 2 (Desert Fox, Hindu Guru and someone else)
==> SHANG
==> HITTITE
==> MACEDONIAN

LOL, can it get any worse than that? I'm not stating here that Greek or Carthage are the worst civs but they just need other allies.

If you are wondering about the outcome: Our pard resigned after 10 seconds leaving Wolfie and me without no other option than do the same. Not that we had a chance if he stayed anyway .

I did my house rush on him! Once again, DF makes a player laugh so hard he accidentally resigns. I have found this strat to be lethal in most cases. However it is not to be outdone my Levi's fishing boat rush, but that rush takes much more time to pull off.

House rush, fishing boat rush? What do you mean? You just scared him away with houses??? LOL. I did notice he got a "defeated" instead of resigned but Wolfie and me thought he deleted all his units.

Brey, the Random Civ God has been real freaky as well, I played 2 friendly games with some alohas and others I play w/ all the time, both games me and archer got the same civs, first was persia and second was carth. I think that our partner got greek the first game and mace the second. Argh! They had atleast 2 choice civs on their team each game.

Luckily, we won both games by this equation. Aloha_Archer on your team = win! Oh well, I'm enjoying playing random more and more.

Hehe. I seem to get Palmy a lot lately. But instead of whining about it I now found something that works very well for me. About 20 real vills in stone, more fish boats in tool and go heavy on compies in Bronze. Throw in a scout and about 3-5 stoners and u got yourselfs a nice Palmy army IMO. I no longer build camels with them.

Man, you are CRAZY not to use Camels when you are palm. They can take down CAs, Cav, and Stoners and don't need the compie upgrade. I've won hard fought games with camels vs compies and done ok. You need them in mass, but damn, they are fast!

Well they got no eyes just like cavs and I'm a bad pre-scouter in tool, so... Anyway, camels always take hits, compies don't if used en masse. Besides, I haven't seen so much of that speed bonus.

I got Palmy again today (now it's starting to get boring) and again, comps to the max and it worked again. Scared the enemy's cavs out of my ally's town, pushed him back into his own town but then he ironed and got cats -> exit compies + few stoners (snif snif). Shortly thereafter I ironed too but it was already too late. My allies weakened and so did I.

But mrfixit, back to your issue. With all civs I'm building mixed armies more and more nowadays and it works the best for me. One of the 3 Palmy games I played I had compies/camels/priests/villtowering/stoners and it worked very nice. Except my 2 allies were beaten so hard I couldn't give the game a turn. But I was able to defend my base from Persian Iron for a long time and at the same time attack another Iron don't-remember-what-civ covered by enemy Palmy towers.

You resigned!?!?! you are CRAZY! Never ever resign just because of that! Fight to the end and die like a hero, even if it make you cry.

What is the house rush? I have attemted to house up my enemies TC... but it didn't work, i almost got done, but not quite...

LOL, 2vs3 against DF and Guru? With those civs? I'm usually a guy that tries to hang on as long as possible but in that case...

Played a game where our 3 all got Shang and so did one of the oppostion. They immediately resigned - couldn't really blame them.

I got into a random civ FFA game a couple of weeks ago with some friends who were both good players. I got Persian, and they both got Shang. It was over before it ever started, but somebody dropped and we had to restart. (Thank God!)

In the restart, we had the fairest FFA random I've ever seen- Phoenicia, Assyria, and Sumeria...

I have no idea what everybody is complaining about. I ALWAYS get Shang and Phoenie when I play random, honestly. And my partner ALWAYS turns out to be The Sheriff smurfing. Its almost getting boring.

But seriously, I consider the Random Map God a much more dangerous enemy than the Random Civ God. With a decent spot, a 3v3 and a Gigantic map, ANY civ is playable, IMHO. A crappy spot, however, kills everybody. In a game the other day, I had to go bronze without finding a forest. It was Gigantic Continental and I had to travel half-way across the map to start cutting wood in my partners camp after 17 minutes. By then, not a single straggler was standing within 40 tiles of my TC. Needless to say, booming was kind of slow that game. :P

Spam I know exactly what u mean. Played a game last night (got Summy, so far so good) but wood was about 50-60 tiles from my TC .
