Many times i'll play cont. and find that the gold and stone might be evenly placed for both sides but wood, food, and fish are unbalanced. Many games I get tiny little parks while on the other side of the map there are forest as far as the eye can see. Same thing with food, one side will have 3-4 berry patches for each player and 1-2 for each player on the other side. Same goes for fish. Now this doesnt always happen but somtimes it does (maybe 30-40%). Well just my thoughts...I'd like to know if anyone else has noticed this.

I've noticed this on all maps types. One of the few GIVENs is lots of shore fish on a med map. However, you can really get screwed by the location of the sea.

I was doubley hosed by the gods in a random civ med map game this weekend. I was given Carth at the far 3 o'clock corner. My close berries were inside the forest, and the sea was a long way off and hard to find. All this against a set team. Disasterous.

As I see it, this is the map god's way of giving us an excuse for losing. If I only knew how to appease these fickle gods and gain their favor...

I find that narrows is by far the worse map for resource distribution. I can't express how much I hate that map. I have always gotten shafted by the gods when playing that map. AARRGGHHHH

I think continental are the most fair maps overall. This doesn't mean that they are always fair (like u said, wood distribution can be a problem), but they are way superior to Inland/Narrows/Coastal as far as equality of resources are concerned. Mediterranean and Hill Country are usually fair too, but Gigantic Large Islands are probably the most fair IMO.

My 2 cents.

I think that with conti maps wood is the greatest problem. When I find a forest, then I can relax. I boat boom most games so food isnt an issue since I can usually find a good berry patch or some shore fish for first food source. Gold seems to be evenly placed. So. I mostly play conti lately. Only thing I don't like about conti is that it is difficult to wall most area's. I tend to tower for defense, but a wall is nice barrier and attack warning.

I have found Conti to be very fair, but Narrows to give a disproportional allotment of resources. Last game I played, as mace, on a Gig/Narrows map I was out of wood and Gold in Bronze, IN BRONZE! I had 2 (small forests) and one gold mine, where as it seemed the other team had 3-4 (large) forests and 3 gold mines each. I did all I could, seriously damaging their econs w/Hordes or AE, but with out wood, I could not maintain a navy, and thus food, and thus the game. I was very annoyed!
