For this thread, I would like to discuss the following strategies: Stone Age rush, Tool Age Archer rush, Tool Age Scout rush, Bronze Age Cavalry Rush, and Bronze Age Chariot rush. With that said, lets get started.

Stone Age rush: Palmyrians. See, their faster-gathering, but costlier, villagers may make you suddenly realise that in the meanwhile their Clubman cost as much as the one of the next civilization.

Tool Age Archer Rush: Assyrians. Great economy and a very powerfull bonus.

Bronze Age Cavalry Rush: Yamato. Also kind of a no-brainer here, with their cheaper cavalry and great economy...

Bronze Age Chariot Archer rush: Assyrians. Yes, again. Although one could argue Egyptian chariots are stronger in chariot-versus chariot combat... Thing is, I see a higher damage output as more important then more bulk for ranged units. And in the case of attacking with Chariot Archers on the Bronze Age, you will probably be focusing on hit-and-run tactics anyway.

The Palmyran, starting with their bonus food in the UPatch/DE, should in fact possibly provide a very efficient clubman rush. In general this isn't a very favored tactic though, as unarmored clubmen can still easily be ganged up upon by a decent amount of villagers.

For Tool Rushes, Assy do have the best bowmen, but the presence of Slingers in RoR also does a lot to hurt the potential of such a rush. In general for an effective tool rush I'd rather go with Shang, Axemen+Slingers or Slingers only.

Yamato clearly have the most viable cavalry, but for CA's I'd once again consider Shang a top competitor. An effective Boom economy until Bronze can almost outperform the actual usefulness of a unit bonus.

I think these are all great choices when it comes to civilization strengths. I would like to know, have you ever heard of the peon rush?

You don't generally see it pulled off in 1v1's but I saw it once come close to beating a top player. He dealt with it very well. This is a stone age rush generally performed with Sumerians but can also be performed with Assyrian and Yamato because of their movement speed. The rush utilizes the HP (or faster movement speed of villagers) in what's essentially a villager rush. In this rush you send almost your whole economy to the enemy and rush them with your vills and if performed correctly, it damages your targets economy. It also has a heavy toll on the player performing it and don't see very often. It's a fun strategy to perform and is very difficult to pull off.

Foor tool age rushes the best two civs would be Shang with there cheaper vills and sturdy walls. But Yammy was and may still be in DE, king of conti. As this civ can perform an effective galley rush on top of having a strong eco and both slingers, axeman and sometimes scouts. But without a doubt Shang has the best rush in tool age. There are no such thing as archer rushes anymore and yes, Assy is the best at it. I never see Archers as the main rushing unit and only supportive since the introduction of Slingers.

Yamato obviously has the best cavalry rush because it's the only civ with a cavalry related bonus.

I would have to agree that Assy is the best, their chariots with the strong economy to back it up are almost unmatched on the field. But it's not Egypt or Hittite who have the next best CA rush, as Fisk pointed out it's Shang. Having access to all bronze age techs, cheaper vills make their rush very strong.

Maybe it's only a fool who'll perilously journey out to what might not be there. But if you want to solve problems, you don't just solve the ones that are there, you find more and make more and go after the impossible ones.
The neanderthals never ventured into the unknown and they went extinct, so who are the fools?

I think that maybe not absolute top tier but maybe in the top 6? The hittites have this archer attack bonus and the war galley range bonus. I think that does help quite a bit in certain maps. Maybe they would be the top Mid-Tier for rushes?

Yeah, playing against Hittites on maps with a decent water/land balance is really awful due to those ships. Still in terms of CA rush potential I'd rank them below Assy, Shang and Egypt. 4th isn't bad in any way though.

This varies a lot actually. Your map plays a major role in how you rush, when you rush, and even if you rush, along with your position in accordance with your allies, are you wing? etc...

If I had to have my bread and butter of choices I think it would personally come down to two - 3 civilizations.

First- Palmyra Sure they have vil cost of 75 food, but the bonus to gathering speed is a godlike blessing. If I am given a handful of strag close enough to my tc or a forest close by, but with maybe 4-5 fs and 2 ele? I Can easily 14 vil and tool off of it to rush with scouts by 7-8 mins.

Persian- for the hunting bonus, the bonus to hunting is amazing. if you get lucky enugh to have 3 - 4 ele, and w.e else you are blessed with, you can make a very beautiful very early scout rush.

next., Roman.

roman have cheap cost on buildings, this allows for a easier time rushing, even more so on a horrible map with no close forest and some strag to suffice. I have many times completely deleted players with a roman sling/tower rush.

that's my pick though, many are good,

mace is a prime choice as well with greek and cho and even shang.

Well, I was actually triyng to adress individual rushing strategies rather then rushing in general in my OP, but thanks anyway. Although, I would say that, I dont think scout rushing is a good idea, period. Slingers were added to this game for a reason, as scouts were deemed as too weak to counter Archers on the Tool Age and... Just generally not good in combat whatsoever.

It would be much harder to name the best "generic" rushing civ, but if I had to, I would probably point to the Shang... Mostly because of how fast their economy is. You can say the same thing for the Palmyrians, however, the fact their villagers are also more expensive must not be underestimated.
