I've played Age of Empires in April and May of this year. I've played it without patches and the expansion (at that time, I've forgotten that in my old home, 1000 Km far...). When I've played it, I didn't notice any problem. Then, in September, I've installed the expansion, the patches and the Unofficial Patch. It worked, until I've discovered two major bugs:

-You can't progress in the Yamato campaign;
-Some units don't evolve in superior units when you use Post-Iron Age in the editor or when you play scenarios set in that Age.
I've made experiments in the editor.
Those units are:
-Broad Swordsman
-Long Swordsman
-Heavy Cavalry
-Phalanx
-Catapult
-War Galley
-Sentry Tower
-Guard Tower

Now, I've uninstalled everything, then I've reinstalled Age of Empires, only the original, to see if it was a problem of the UP, the expansion or the patches. The Yamato campaign was fine, but the bug of the unit evolution remained. I'm absolutely sure that that problem wasn't present when I've played in April and May, so I have the suspect that, somehow, the disc of the original game has inherited the bug from the Unofficial Patch.

Can you help me to solve this bug?

The middle tier units won't upgrade to ultimates in Post Iron, only the lowest tier units will, that's why the units you mention don't become ultimates, and that's normal, no bug involved.

I'm sorry, but your conclusions are total nonsense - none of your problems has anything to do with the Unofficial Patch. Middle units not being upgraded (in Post-Iron) is not a bug and is present in all versions of the game, including the original AOE. It actually improves unit diversity in the Editor.

As for the problem with campaign progress - this is a rare bug of the original game - it happens sometimes (too rarely to be easily caught), I don't know why. I remember first happening to me many years ago, when I played the original campaigns.

Also the unofficial patch has 100% clean uninstall - it restores the game to what it was before UP was installed. Not to mention UP uses different files, which the original game doesn't use, so it can't affect anything, much less the original AOE on the disc.
Unlike the original game, the unofficial patch has many additional checks for problems and even a special option for File integrity check, which can discover corrupted files - from bad installation of the original game or other problems (viruses, etc). That's how much attention was put into file integrity, very few programs do that.

aoe_scout is there a version of UPatch without the balance changes? I've always wanted to use it, but I don't want to change the balance that I've grown used to.

The new modding system will be revealed with the next UPatch HD release, enabling many new possibilities. Shortly after that I will make an UPatch HD mod with the balance of ROR 1.0a (and 1.0). So everyone who wants to play with the old balance can simply apply this mod, while keeping all the new features and hundreds of bug fixes.

Check the UPatch HD thread for more info.
