I just have the feeling sometimes that this game is just dead, with some people typing some things on the forum and only 50 people playing on voobly; if you're lucky. No HD edition on steam. Just completly dead. Right ?

at least 10 people do "serious" modding here, maybe more.
The game is not completely dead, unless only modders still care about AOE1 ?

Unfortunately there's no coordination at all between modders and all the work is done, re-done and re-done again by everyone.

AOE1 is far from dead! Don't create such unsubstantiated rumors. The fact that few people visit this forum or play in Voobly doesn't mean the game is not played. Modding has absolutely nothing to do with this - everyone chooses how and what to mod. Most modders would simply prefer a more recent game (less efforts and more capabilities) - it's normal. And, of course, how many people mod such game is by no way indicative of how many play it.

There are actually thousands of active AOE1 players - most of them are in Vietnam and China - they even have tournaments with money prizes. You can check the Multiplayer section, Bichho posts info there from time to time.

@Slacky: You can run the game by using the Wine emulator. I haven't tried it myself, because I don't use Linux, but I know that other people have successfully run it that way.

UPatch HD - the unofficial (HD) patch for Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome - HD resolution, HD quality interface graphics, hundreds of bug fixes, new gameplay options and many other enhancements.

This.

Yeah for Microsoft the game maybe relevant only because of the prestige of the name of the franchise.

In Europe/NorthAmerica, many people won't play it and it maybe considered comatose there, but in the far east I could almost dare to say it fares better than all the other ES games combined lol.

I'm from the US and I've encountered many other US players on GameRanger. Actually, it seems like most people I play with are from the US, Canada, or Europe... and there's also a fairly large amount from South America, I've noticed.

Are there any other active AoE1 forums (in English)?

By active I mean more than 3 posts per day and more than 10 active users or something like that.
