Hi!

I've just re-installed Age of Empires I Gold Edition on my laptop / Windows 8.1 (haven't played it for many, many years), I've also installed the UPatch HD 1.1 Beta2, I've set on "run as an administrator" and I've also tried to run the game in compatibility mode (XP, 98, etc.), but the game keeps crashing. What is weird is that it only crashes when I try to play a game (campaign or anything else). The introduction works, the menu appears and so on, but as soon as I enter any kind of game, I go back to the desktop. :/

I'd like to add that AoE III, for example, works fine.

Anyone could help me please? Thank you very much in advance.

First remove any compatibility options and don't play as administrator (it's not required). If the game still doesn't work try Windowed Mode in UPatch settings. Did you install properly from the disk? Windows 8 should ask you to install DirectDraw the first time you open the game, did that happen? I tested UPatch under Windows 8.1 before release and it works without problems.

Hi,

I've just tried now in a windowed mode as you told me to do, and now it seems to work. So, yay!

I had indeed installed the game from my disk (a French Ubisoft version).

Thank you for your tip, much appreciated.

EDIT: but the camera moves too fast, is there any way to slow it down?

EDIT2: it's ok, I've figured out. lol

EDIT3: anyone knows why the game freezes for about 2 seconds when the music changes? It's annoying, is there a solution? Thanks!

No one knows? No one can help me on that subject? :/

What's your system configuration and Windows version? Try this procedure (2nd post) for installing the game.

To install UPatch HD, just unzip and start the setup program, everything else is automatic. Of course, you need to properly install the game first then UPatch HD.

The music problem AnotherReality mentioned above was also fixed in UPatch HD 1.1.
