I've been fooling around with per editing. Managed to get the AI to use scouts for exploration, the AI does manage to get some exploration done, unfortunately it gets interrupted when they're attacked by a predator animal and immediately halt or run into an area surrounded by water and just don't go back from where they came. It sucks that there is no way to re-task idle exploration groups when stuff like this happens.

Well it cheats anyway so it doesn't need to explore. The AI knows where you are all the time.

it isnt that it cheats.. gotta remmeber the computer running the game knows were you are cuz it is the game in other words it process the information in order to work.. so therefore it knows as well. just naturally.. im assuming that is how it works..

If that's the case then the computer could just plop buildings on unexplored regions of the map or instantly send soldiers to attack without uncovering your base. This doesn't happen, the game might know where you are, but the AI is programmed not to know to the best of my knowledge. It still needs exploration in order to function.

My roma campaign has quite a few Dm styled scenario's and during making it I noticed that when you place enemy flags in your own town (flares might work too) they'll attack you much faster.

That's because flags and flares have line of sight and will uncover part of the map. If they're placed near an enemy building then the enemy will have an easier time attacking.

I think one of my biggest gripes though is that the game seems to put attack groups as a higher priority than defense or exploration groups, which means if I want exploration groups formed first I have to disable attack and defend group formation.

Also these interruptions (i.e being attack by a predator, getting stuck) in exploration groups prevent other exploration groups from being formed by throughout the rest of the game unless the current groups are killed off.
