My question is that most gaming platforms in my knowledge they tend to go down because author either retires from his gaming programming career or maybe he has other better stuffs to do other than gaming.

I remember I used to use Gamespy and All-Seeing-Eye for other games and All-Seeing-Eye was the better platform for me then later 3 years later or 5 yahoo bought it and now you need to pay a fee to get a copy including crap advertisements.

If Gameranger falls down, probably Voobly a bit weaker in terms of NAT support slower connection higher latency and annoy updates everyday, Wippien alternative platform and Tunngle doesn't sounds good you need to pay money so you get all the features.

GameRanger currently seems to be doing pretty good financially, and the fact that it is free is one of the reasons it's so popular. I don't think it would become a paid service any time soon.

What exactly will happen in the future is hard for any of us to know, if we're lucky Scott might show up to say what he thinks about it.

Us Mac players are still alive. but only a bit over a hundred room at any time now, tho. countin all games.
I think GR has a future, its a free service wth hundreds of games where the clear winner is age of kings
also I asked about the ladder n why its only for premium, and i quote

"It's being phased out."
fair enough

I agreed localboi. The AOE2 has more players than AOE and ROR. I think later maybe I will play AOC but at GR not really interested in the cloning zone for AOC as I mostly play for fun competition sometimes but I prefer to have fun with more players rather than being top 20.

Voobly should just have an unrated room for all their games. It is hard to learn the game and get into games on Voobly. You can go from 1600 to 1300 in a week or two and getting back to 1600 is near impossible. Even if you are improving hardly anyone will let you in their game unless you qualify by rating.

I had/have too many bad experiences with GameRanger not because of the service but because of the players. They seem to all be overly casual players. I have played with people who have varying patch versions 1.0 1.0a 1.0b and some with 1.0C Of course the majority of games failed to launch, had some guy with cheats, he was playing a DM game on a supremacy game. Countless experiences I wish I never had really.

The only time GameRanger proved to be good was when I vs clan members and other known respectable clans. Plus the occasional friend vs friend game. For that type of arangement I think GameRanger is better.

I do hope both Voobly and GameRanger provide an ongoing service. I sometimes wonder what would happen if the owners decided to find a real job. We would all be screwed.

That's strange. GameRanger worked for me and my net issues are really serious. GameRanger is foolproof, if it worked for me it should work for everyone.

People thinks that rated game it is a proof that you are cheat free as they take the game seriously; I would agree that you shall play serious but knowing the difference between letting new talents play and also old talents not really known as you know the known list of AOE is like thousands of players. It is really hard to get friendly with another player as they hate your play style or your way to choose teams and settings a total disagreement.

I'd being playing with my friend Virrey he will disagree in everything he does the teams and the lucky win you had over him. I think most players have that attitude others tend to have it later as they get better at their gaming level.

So far Scott or someone a head lead department of GR supports mostly AOC and AOK; like if they had the spirit of the game. I think it will likely GR will be for sure 8 years more but later I think players shall adapt to Wippien an alternative less friendly than GR. There will be no other choice into players play with different players even if you dislike his skills or way of playing there are other ways to get to know with the player you play even if it's a whining quitter or skillful but a big talker. As far as voobly I know most of them used to play most of the series of AOE and they were also elites or experts; voobly will dure more GR is more attractive and easier to connect rather than voobly. Voobly is better in terms of anti-cheat and maybe the lag it lags less than GR sometimes I think Voobly supports more in heart AOE than GR has more games. Voobly may also tweak AOE to lag less sometimes but their NAT is still in development as far as it gets better I may play on voobly on the future don't really care if rated or not.

I'm surprised you're even asking this.

GameRanger is the longest running online gaming service on any platform.

Have a read of this.

Thumbs up for Kevill for his dedication. And could you fix issue regarding AoE3 bought from Steam. When the host launches, for me the game stops at main menu after which nothing happens.

Well I guess asking Scott directly would be more effective to get a reply
