Hey, I recently made quite a few Scenarios for me and my friend to play against, give us a challenge putting them on hard etc, I start them the same resources as us leave everything normal, set them where I want them which is other side of map with Town Center & 3 Villagers. All they do is build 2 houses and an extra villager than sit there..

I have tried setting them to Super Agressive etc and picking their civs.. Nothing is working any idea why?

1. Try to make a new scenario with same settings and see if same thing happens

2. Make sure they have berries, forest and mines close to the towncenter so they can find it very quick.

3. Set an ES made AI for the computers of how they are gonna play.

4. Alternative, make your own custom AI and PER. This would require a lot of time and testing to get it perfect, but by then, you already know the weakness (unless you make one without any weakness)

There are 2 files in the players tab that can be set, a PER file such as "Super Agressive" which controls the players behavior, and an AI file such as "Hittite Deathmatch" which controlst he computer build order. Have you set both of these?

There could be a number of other causes, as computers seldom display the requested behavior.

@Basse - Ok, i'll make a quick new scenario and make sure everything is near their Villagers/TC. I have set the options in player before but they still tend to stand around idling.

@Fruktfisk - Ok i'll give it a shot again, I have set these before but nothing tends to happen I choose the right players etc but oh well ill try again .

Is there any other solutions that might be causing this? I'll be sure to get back to both of you on the results. Thanks for the fast replies.

The cause of this could quite possibly be the City Plan. Next to the strategy and Build Plan boxes in the player's menu is the City Plan. If you changed that at all to anyhting other than what the default setting is then there is a good chance that is resobonsible for the behaviour. The City Plan files are unpredictible at best because they were never rendered correctly. THEY MUST NOT BE FIDDLED WITH UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DOING. And even then messing with them is a BAD IDEA.

Also if the Computer is set to 'Passive' or 'Passive Aggresive' then that would also cause the same behaviour. If you want to have the computer fight in a certain way then you will might want to make your on AI plan (what the computer builds/researches/trains) and their behaviour (.PER files). Generally 'Super Aggresive' is not nearly as effective as it sounds. Surprizing if you want a good unpredictible Computer strategey set them to 'Defensive' as they can do nearly any behavoiur under that setting.

A few things to check. If they don't have any actual resources around their starting points they won't do anything. The computers look for berry bushes before building any granaries and they look for wood, gold, stone, fish, or game before building storage pits. If your computers are on islands and their strategies don't call for water, they may not build a dock. Additionally, the computers will not "take off" and start building everything like they should unless they have a certain amount of area explored first. If you know anything about AI editing you can change the amount of ground they need to have explored before constructing anything. A long time ago I made a lot of maps with just town centers and 99999 of each resource, and it took me forever to figure out why all the computer did was produce masses of villagers.

I have the same problem as syther but differing in 2 details.

-It happens in any deathmatch game, either single or multiplayer.

-It only happens to the AI players who are allied to another human player not to the enemy AIs. Usually they make 2 houses, get 8 villagers (yup there still would be room for an extra 4), a storage pit and 7 of the 8 villagers collect wood for like 5 minutes and then they freeze.

It is bothersome because even tho sometimes the players "wake up" and start building stuff, after 30 minutes of inactivity, often they just do nothing.
