Midi for the music files and .wav files for the sound effects. There were some Opening movies on the CD and I
think they look really good!

Audio files (fair quality, not exceptional) on the CD, also for RoR, but most people preferred the music on the AoE CD. Still, RoR music owns the AoK music on the Collector's edition DVD.

So, what music is on the Age of empires gold edition? Or does it come with both CDs?

I don't have the Gold edition, but from what I've heard it's mostly RoR like or worse.

I found a way that worked for me that will might also work for you. 1) Go to Windows Media Player. 2) Go to Media Library 3) There should be a "Add" Button to search for music on your computer on on a disc or device. Click this button and click on the option to search computer. 4) There is a "Look in" with a browse button. Click browse and select where your CD AoE is. It will search the CD for the music and sounds. I only got the music. By the way, I think you can do this on any CD or device.

Yup if you have the gold edition both games have the same music...except if you launch the game without the CD and then you put the cd in when the program asks for it.

If anyone is wondering, age of empires gold edition does not contain CD quality music. Instead the game uses the midi files when you play with the gold cd.

Actually, the original Gold Edition contains the CD music from ROR. The budget re-releases lack CD music and so they use midi.

Ah. I can imagine the beautiful Age Of Empires music in my ears while I get a knife out and...
Hmm. I would love to see a AOE soundtrack, wouldn't you? All the Age games have great music. This includes Age Of Mythology.

I ahve to agree even tho some people like peter (lol) think that gold editions music is annoying (err, i think he said that before...if not i dreamed of it and that would be...weird).

The subject turned up several times over the years. And I repeated myself a lot there. So, Sup, your memory is entirely correct.

i found something wierd with AOE music,
when you are playing AOE and minimise the game, then maximise it again, the music changes. its the same tune, but its played completely by a piano. at first i thought that the sounds started like this, and AOE does something to it, but that theory was busted when i played the tracks with windows media player and they were normal.
