Well, has anybody tried it out yet? I ran through a few quick RMs and DMs against the AIs just to see how much difference there is, but I can't gauge properly as I wasn't playing against real, competitive humans.
I quite like the individual adjustments to the various units. However, I couldn't yet see how it would affect gameplay much, as I was routinely steamrolling over the AI players - no challenge at all.
I wouldn't mind having a couple of games with you guys to try the patch out. I can't wait to spam cataphracts. They're incredibly powerful in this new patch with +5 pierce armour. A suggestion for HCav though - maybe they could have +2 or +3 pierce armour to make them feasible on the battlefield for players who can't afford the Cataphract upgrade. Currently they have only +1, I believe.
Like I said, I can't really feel the effect of the many modifications yet. To me, the biggest change would be the reduction of Cataphracts' vulnerability to arrow fire, and maybe the +1 range for Cents? Cents with aristocracy now are much better at taking down fleeing units.
I read about the slight enhancements to the unique gathering rates for Bab, Egyptian and Persian miners and gatherers, but I don't really understand their significance. To me, they're already very fast (ie. Egyptians mine gold very swiftly, and Persian hunters gather meat fast enough).
