On the second scenario, just when I have a nice big fleet ready the game crashes. I tried restarting like 5 times and it crashed everytime. I hve no save files. What can fix this problem?

Passionate Soul what HAVE you been doing to your game!?

Question are you running AoE on Vista? Because if so half your problem is that. Also high resolution computers equal old games crashing.

Oh and saving often is almost always worth it.

If your game is priated then that might be causeing the problem. One really should have a legitamte copy of AoE.

Too many people say far too much about Gumble. They also claim Gumble says far too much which isnt true.

Remember those problems about Vista that had not been occurring on my computer? This is one of them that doesn't happen. I have a high end gamin PC that can run the newest games of the highest graphic settings. I also have a 22" screen and Vista 64 bit if anyone was wondering. My version of AoE has never crashed and it runs perfectly every time, so I doubt that Passionate Soul's problem would be Vista.

I would say that you could fix AoE with a reinstall and close all other programs and you probably should run a virus scan so that you can be sure that nothing else is affecting it. But if your problems still persist, I would have to say that your version of the game is corrupt in some way (this could be due to having a pirated version as Gumble said or scratches on the disk).

I use XP.
I have a legitimate copy.
I have reinstalled 11 times by now.
My screen is pretty wide and resolution of 1600 X 900.

The thing is, the game crashes at a very specific point of the scenario. I dont understand how a new game can be scratched or corrupted?!

Are you sure there's nothing else amiss?

Do you happen to have dual (or more) processor? I have found that AoE was more stable on single processor older computers (Celeron 500 MHz, Pentium IV 1.8 GHz), and less stable (crashes more often) on my newer computer which has Core 2 Duo 1.6 GHz.

(I haven't tested this rigorously so it could be just coincidences)

I have a quad core....

Have you installed the patch? If you haven't, that may fix the problem, but I doubt it as the patches just fix game balance issues and they remove exploits that can be done in game.

Do you have any mods installed that might be conflicting with game files?

Well the thing I do in a crash-happy scenario is save every minute or so and just restart the game and load the last save whenever it crashes. This works better in the non-patched versions because the patch causes problems with saving.
