It's a joke title, kinda.
Say someone came up with a game that combined all thirteen ages of the series(AOM not included here). How would that game play? What mechanics would be used? What strategies could somebody possibly come up with? Could a game last thirteen periods of time? And what game engine would be used: The original AOE/ROR/AOM/Titans Genie, the AOK/Conquerors Genie, or the newer AOEIII/TAD/TWC engine, whatever it's called? And WHAT CIVS WOULD WE USE?
A couple of these questions would simply be answered by playing a round or two of Empire Earth. The engine question is a matter of opinion. But anything else, I shall try to answer.
There will be an installment every day. Tomorrow I'll deal with civs. But today, I deal with the most ominius problem.
DAY 1: THE SWORDSMEN LINES.
Before I start, I don't have considerable knowledege of AOEIII, so I'll be counting on you guys to supply info and/or improvements that include that gane and its two expansion packs.
Anyway, the swordsman line. The discriptions of such and their roles:
SWORDSMAN LINE-AOE/ROR
Definition: A powerful infantry group that helps form the backbone of Roman and Choson players.
Age: Bronze on
Building: Barracks
Cost: 35F, 15G
Upgrades:
Bronze-Research Short Sword
Bronze-Broad Sword
Iron-Long Sword
Iron-Legion(Must research Fanaticism first)
SWORDSMAN LINE-AOK/AOC
Definition: The basic barracks unit.
Age: All
Building: Barracks
Cost: 60F, 20G
Upgrades:
Dark-Militia available w/barracks building
Feudal-Men at Arms
Castle-Long Swordsman
Imperial-Two-Handed Swordsman
Imperial-Champion
Now problems occur. You could simply merge the units together, but there's two longswords. Instead, we bring the much frowned-upon AOE friends toothy and axer into the equation, and compare the stats: (base values)
Stat|AOE|AOK
Stat Toothy Clubman Militia
HP 40 40
Attack 3 4
Armor/PA 0/0 0/1
Range Melee Melee
Axeman Man at Arms
HP 50 45
Attack 5 6
Armor/PA 0/0 0/1
Range Melee Melee
Broad Swordsman Long Swordsman
HP 70 55
Attack 9 9
Armor/PA 1/0 0/1
Range Melee Melee
And so on for Long v. Two-Hander and Legion v. Champ.
In any case, these two are incompatible. Proposed new swordsman line:
ONE-HANDED SWORDSMAN LINE-Cost: 35 Food, 15 Gold
Militia
Men at Arms
Short Swordsman
Broad Swordsman
Long Swordsman
Legion
Kor Bosch's famous mod Age of Chivalry: Hegemony introduced the idea of the Two-Hander and Champion(called the Man at Arms and Foot Knight, respectively, by the mod)as a seperate line. We'll include that; they cost 60 food and 60 gold. You must research the Knightly Infantry before you can produce two-handers and champs.
Tomorrow, the civs playing will be incorporated, and on Saturday, technology problems.
Now, the floor is open to comment. Questions, suggestions, etc-please do feel free to comment. If you listed your email address in your profile, I'll email the answer to you. Other questions will be answered in a section before the actual article of the day.
My email address is listed in my profile, so you can also email any questions there. I'll be checking my email regularly.
Oh, and all critisism must be constructive-I've had enough harshness from AOKH to last a lifetime.
-----END OF DAY 1-----
