It's a joke title, kinda.

Say someone came up with a game that combined all thirteen ages of the series(AOM not included here). How would that game play? What mechanics would be used? What strategies could somebody possibly come up with? Could a game last thirteen periods of time? And what game engine would be used: The original AOE/ROR/AOM/Titans Genie, the AOK/Conquerors Genie, or the newer AOEIII/TAD/TWC engine, whatever it's called? And WHAT CIVS WOULD WE USE?
A couple of these questions would simply be answered by playing a round or two of Empire Earth. The engine question is a matter of opinion. But anything else, I shall try to answer.

There will be an installment every day. Tomorrow I'll deal with civs. But today, I deal with the most ominius problem.

DAY 1: THE SWORDSMEN LINES.
Before I start, I don't have considerable knowledege of AOEIII, so I'll be counting on you guys to supply info and/or improvements that include that gane and its two expansion packs.
Anyway, the swordsman line. The discriptions of such and their roles:

SWORDSMAN LINE-AOE/ROR
Definition: A powerful infantry group that helps form the backbone of Roman and Choson players.
Age: Bronze on
Building: Barracks
Cost: 35F, 15G
Upgrades:
Bronze-Research Short Sword
Bronze-Broad Sword
Iron-Long Sword
Iron-Legion(Must research Fanaticism first)

SWORDSMAN LINE-AOK/AOC
Definition: The basic barracks unit.
Age: All
Building: Barracks
Cost: 60F, 20G
Upgrades:
Dark-Militia available w/barracks building
Feudal-Men at Arms
Castle-Long Swordsman
Imperial-Two-Handed Swordsman
Imperial-Champion

Now problems occur. You could simply merge the units together, but there's two longswords. Instead, we bring the much frowned-upon AOE friends toothy and axer into the equation, and compare the stats: (base values)
Stat|AOE|AOK

Stat Toothy Clubman Militia
HP 40 40
Attack 3 4
Armor/PA 0/0 0/1
Range Melee Melee

Axeman Man at Arms
HP 50 45
Attack 5 6
Armor/PA 0/0 0/1
Range Melee Melee

Broad Swordsman Long Swordsman
HP 70 55
Attack 9 9
Armor/PA 1/0 0/1
Range Melee Melee

And so on for Long v. Two-Hander and Legion v. Champ.
In any case, these two are incompatible. Proposed new swordsman line:

ONE-HANDED SWORDSMAN LINE-Cost: 35 Food, 15 Gold
Militia
Men at Arms
Short Swordsman
Broad Swordsman
Long Swordsman
Legion

Kor Bosch's famous mod Age of Chivalry: Hegemony introduced the idea of the Two-Hander and Champion(called the Man at Arms and Foot Knight, respectively, by the mod)as a seperate line. We'll include that; they cost 60 food and 60 gold. You must research the Knightly Infantry before you can produce two-handers and champs.

Tomorrow, the civs playing will be incorporated, and on Saturday, technology problems.
Now, the floor is open to comment. Questions, suggestions, etc-please do feel free to comment. If you listed your email address in your profile, I'll email the answer to you. Other questions will be answered in a section before the actual article of the day.
My email address is listed in my profile, so you can also email any questions there. I'll be checking my email regularly.
Oh, and all critisism must be constructive-I've had enough harshness from AOKH to last a lifetime.

Funny Idea, but we already have Empire Earth.

Isn't there already an AoK mod that adds in the AoE/RoR units? I remember seeing screenshots with scythe chariots, long swordsmen and composite bowmen in AoK.

Zap: There are a couple of mods that do that. (BTW, AOK has longswords of its own.) Even more mods import SLP graphics from AOE/ROR. The modder replaces the SLPs of existingunits in AOK with the new SLPs.

Basse: No, I am not advertising that EE is better than the AOE series, but having gotten the EE CD a couple of days ago, and since it plays much like Age, and has features that Age lacks(notably zooming), it WILL be mentioned a couple of times in the thread.

Moving right along...

DAY TWO
Civs Included

This, technically, should be day three, but I had to clean the house yesterday and didn't get the chance to use my computer. Anyway, Age Composite Edition cannot proceed(again, this is non-canon material, so don't think ES/Microsoft/Robot Entertainment will release this game) without knowing which civilizations will partake within the game.

CIVILIZATIONS-GAME FEATURE:
Cvis that have PREVIOUSLY APPEARED WITHIN THE SERIES OR AGE OF CHIVALRY will be allowed to appear in Age of Empires Composite Edition.

Because Chivalry is, technically, still a mod, we'll put civs w/o a second appearance in the series but who did appear in Chivalry(that'll save a lot of AOK civs) at the bottom of the guest list.
The games elgible for credit are:

Age of Empires
Rise of Rome
Age of Kings
The Conquerors
Age of Empires 3
The War Chiefs
The Asian Dynasties

Civs in one game of the abovementioned but with an appearance in EE or Chivalry will appear in an expansion pack. For now, let's name civs, just from AOE/ROR, elgible for inclusion in CE. Or rather, place them in categories according to additional appearances:

AOM/Titans
Egypt
Greece

AOK/Conquerors
Persia
Rome(As Byzantines)
Egypt(As Saracens)
Choson(As Korea)
Shang(As China)
Yamato(As Japan)

AOK Civs with Appearance in AOEIII
Aztecs
Turkey(As Ottomans)
Britain
France(Previously Franks)
Teutons(As Germany)
Mayans
Vikings(As AOM Norsemen

Problems, anyone?
Well, I, an AOK player, see one: not enough native civs. Catch that? NOT ENOUGH NATIVE CIVS. The Aztecs and Mayans will be the only civs lacking gunpowder(even the Brits, w/no powder in AOK, catch up with the times) and horses, so we must add:

Native Civs with EXACTLY ONE Appearance(And Name Recognition; too many in AOE3)
Iriquois
Apache
Cherokee
Cheyenne
Incas
Atlantis(AOM Civ, in a league of their own, but still nice to include)

That's thirteen civs to start. Eight native civs will be added in an expansion pack. A second expansion/patch can include Carthage and Macedonia, who have an EE appearance and an AOE appearance. It'll also include Chivalry's outcast: Austria, as the AOK Goths.

Tomorrow, I'll talk about technologies.

It's a good idea, but it's called Empire Earth (Beat me to it Fruktfisk). In my opinion it's best to focus on one time period so the game doesn't become too broad in its focus and sacrifice quality for large quantities of "stuff".

Also there's Rise of Nations, however as you point out, a game that expanses from stone age to the XXXth century could try to hols so much, that in the end, the gamer grasps nothing.

How about omit AoM and just merge all other things into one game?

Ages:
Stone
Tool
Bronze
Iron
Dark
Feudal
Castle
Imperial
Discovery
Colonial
Fortress
Industrial
Imperial(?)

Civs:
Have all civs from all games + official expansions but hypothesise the units, tech tree, bonuses from games they are missing. Assume a full tech tree from all games and then work backwards to get each civ tech tree. Need to think about the transition from game to game (for example, barracks will get very weak going from iron to dark).

Take civ each civ, such as assy and then look at a combined tech tree to assume the units they would have in the games they are missing (AoK, AoE3...).

If there was ever going to be a EE-style AoE game then this would be the best way for the traditionalists out there...

Or play EE
