I decided yesterday that I was going to try a LAN game on my home network. I have the Gold Edition, and I installed it on both my PC and my sister's. (I just got a new PC, and it was uninstalled)
I went through the steps on the FAQ Page, forwarded all of the necessary ports, made a firewall exception for both ESET and Windows Firewall (which is turned off), and I still can't play. Hosting from my Vista 64-Bit PC, the other PC can't see the game, and hosting from the XP-32 PC, mine can see the game but not join. I've selected TCP/IP connection and inputted the right IP (obviously)

Is there a problem with Vista or 64-Bit emulation?

That's unusual. LAN is the only way i can play with other human player, besides gameranger. In any case even though i'm not a vVista user, i've heard that Vista can be very tricky.

Really? I've found that Vista can be bullsh*t, but I've yet to experience it.

Yep, I can't even run AoE at Vista, so that might be the problem. Does playing on the internet work for you?

Haven't tried. AoK goes the same way, it can see games, but not join them. When hosting frfom my laptop they aren't even seen.

Use Hamachi. That usually works, however, it might be a router problem. I always had an issue with online gaming, but after I disconnect my router, I am able to play.

I've tried Hamachi, but to no effect. Do I input the IP Hamachi gives me?

And I can't connect my router, it's also my modem.

Succeeded in getting AoK to work, however I had to start a game through GameRanger.

I have had experience on this type of problem with other games but have yet to try AoE and there could be a simple answer. I'm running Vista-64 bit and when I go to LANs the same thing that you mentioned happens to me but with CoD5. With me the solution was simple.

You said that you have a new computer and because your running Vista-64 bit that means that your computer is relatively new so hence has relatively new hardware. Most motherboards (these days) have two network ports. These network ports seem to have their own IP addresses. I fixed my problem with CoD5 by just switching the port that the network cable was plugged into. It worked for me and I haven't had the problem since.

Hope this helps.

That'll fix it. I'll plug it into the other port on my wireless card.
